AWOL AFGHANS POSE SERIOUS SECURITY THREAT
"NATIONWIDE ALERT" ISSUED FOR 17 MISSING MEN
SEN. JOHN CORNYN OF TEXAS "AMAZED" AIR FORCE
AND HOMELAND SECURITY KEPT NEWS QUIET
SO LONG - STUDENTS AT ENGLISH LANGUAGE
CENTER HAVE BEEN DISAPPEARING ONE-BY-ONE
SINCE LAST YEAR - ALL HAVE PASSES TO GET ON
MILITARY BASES - IF EVEN ONE IS A TERRORIST
"SLEEPER AGENT" WE IN BIG TROUBLE - WHY DID
TOP BRASS CONCEAL POSSIBLE DANGER?
Remember that old line, you know, the one that goes like this: "Just move right along folks, nothing to see here, nothing happened, just move right along." That might as well be the top Air Force brass, busy trying to put a spin on what is a major embarrassment and could even be a serious risk to our national security.
Seventeen Afghan military officers and enlisted men studying English at the Defense Language Institute at Lackland AFB in San Antonio have gone AWOL. Not in a mass desertion, but one-by-one. Over a span of some 18 months. And now is the first time we, the American people, have heard about it. Was there a cover-up here? Well, is the Pope Catholic?
At a time when our enemies vow to destroy us, we can't take any chances. If just one of the 17 missing men proves to be a terrorist "sleeper agent," now gone to ground, heads should roll at Lackland and the Pentagon. One who won't is dim-witted Homeland Security Chief Janet "the system worked" Napolitano.
A political appointee and favorite of Barack Hussein Obama, nothing's going to move her onto the unemployment line. As governor of Arizona, she complained about not having federal troops on the border with Mexico to stop the massive flow of illegal aliens. Now that she's working for the Administration, she balks at doing what she once demanded be done.
ALL THE AWOLS HAD BASE ACCESS CARDS IN THEIR POSSESSION
Here's something to help you readers sleep well tonight. We are told while the visas and driver's licenses of the AWOL Afghans were revoked as soon as they disappeared, all of them had in their possession "access cards" which theoretically could allow them to drive onto any military base. Is that dangerous? You bet it is! And we want to know WHY - some 18 months after the first of these guys went over the hill - wasn't something done about it. Why the long delay before a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) warning was issued to the nation's law enforcement agencies?
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas is not amused.
In a statement issued from his office, he demanded answers as to why "such a serious violation happened - not once, but on 17 separate occasions. The Texas Republican asked an obvious question: "Why weren't safeguards put in place to prevent these repeated incidents after the first few foreign military members disappeared?"
The response from local Air Force flaks has not been reassuring.
"If they complete training and choose to leave the language school for their own country without telling us, they can do that," Dave Smith of the Air Education and Training Command at Randolph AFB said. "We just don't know."
Well, someone better know, or find out fast. Why is Air Force Chief-of-Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz silent? Right after the first couple of officers went AWOL was the time to sound the alarm and put in place a policy where accountability comes first. After 911, we can't afford more mistakes, not when it comes to the safety and well-being of every American citizen.
