THE GENERAL WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS - "GRINCH"
© 2013 MilitaryCorruption.com
Some people should never have been promoted to flag rank in the first place.
Known for not being very bright, BG Michael Bills, the acting commander of the 4th ID at Fort Carson, Colo., is a good reason why.
His lack of leadership, and - in the shameful case of CPT Donny Hamilton, the general's absence of integrity or sense of justice - qualifies him as our newest inductee into MilitaryCorruption.com's HALL OF SHAME.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A SIGNATURE
This disgraceful story begins in July when Hamilton, S1 and adjutant of the 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, was updating his record file in preparation for a hoped-for transfer to Ft. Jackson, S.C.
We'll let you hear about what happened straight from the horse's mouth. In a detailed interview with MCC, the captain said:
"I noticed after an initial review of my records, a few awards were missing, so I re-loaded them into the computer.
"One of the decorations was Canadian Jump Wings that I earned jumping with Canadian forces and U.S. paratroopers at Drop Zone Sullivan near Pueblo back in February.
"According to the Human Resources Command, I needed a supporting memorandum for that jump, conducted with both U.S. Army and Canadian Forces personnel. The HRC representative told me the memo needed to be approved through my unit, so I took it and supporting documents and placed them into my boss's in-box (MAJ Clifton Lopez) for signoff..
"The rules are in HRC that there is a five-day timeline set to get this done or I would have to start all over again. With the impending HRC deadline, and in my capacity as the adjutant, I took the memorandum out of the major's in-box and signed it in his stead.
"As the adjutant, it is common practice within the organization to sign most supporting documentation for the commander when the commander is either not available or is too busy to sign. Supporting documents include finance documents, award recommendations, out-processing papers etc.
"BLINDSIDED" BY MAJ LOPEZ?
"I understood the perception of signing my own supporting document, so I told MAJ Lopez about signing the memorandum the very next day. He said to me 'No problem. I would have signed it myself, anyways.' That was on August 12, 2013. At that point I understood it to be a non-issue."
But on 8 October Lopez called CPT Hamilton into his office and told him he's being investigated for "falsifying" Lopez's signature on the memo - the very same memorandum he originally told the captain he had "no problem" with.
"A couple weeks later, Lopez tells me I'm being transferred to another battalion immediately. He goes on to say his investigation has found me guilty of falsifying documentation and making a false statement. 'The punishment is a general officer Article 15,' he gleefully announced."
Now the hell was really about to begin.
INTERROGATED BY THE BULLY BOYS
On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2nd, Hamilton was put through an experience that would be most familiar to the old NKVD in Moscow.
"I got a phone call at home to come in to the office at Carson where LTC Mike Lazich was supposedly waiting to see me on a very important matter. I kissed my wife and told her I'd be home 'before too long,' and left.
"When I arrived, however, there was no Lazich. Instead, four CID agents and military police personnel grabbed and handcuffed me They placed me in the back of a jeep and transported me like a captured criminal to an interrogation room on base.
"There, I was questioned about MWR funds for eight hours, not allowed once to get up from the chair, have a drink of water, take a latrine break, or call my wife at home. At the end of the ordeal, they suddenly said I was not being arrested - that there had been a "mistake" made, and I was free to leave."
CAPTAIN'S WIFE SEXUALLY PROPOSITIONED
In the meantime, the captain's wife, frantic at his long absence and many unanswered phone calls to MAJ Lopez's number, looked up names on her husband's alert list. She dialed the phone of SFC Cliff Borland, who works directly under Lopez.
The senior NCO told her he'd check into what's up and called her back to say he spoke to Lopez and CPT Hamilton was "in big trouble" and "might not be home for several days."
That was a lie.
"But if you want to come over to my place and have some wine with me, you're welcome," the sergeant said. "You're welcome to spend the night, too."
Mrs. Hamilton burst into tears and hung up the phone.
CAUGHT TEXTING SUGGESTIVE MESSAGES
Let's go back to CPT Hamilton's statement to MCC:
"Borland texted my wife back and repeated his sexual proposition: "There's a glass of wine over here with your name on it. You should come over and spend the night."
Then Borland did a stupid thing. He gave up his boss without realizing the text message was being copied. "MAJ Lopez is out to get your husband," he wrote the terrified woman.
"We have three small children to care for at home, and my wife is totally stressed out and upset. She fears SFC Borland, and for that matter MAJ Lopez (who, when she's come to my office to see me, leaned in the doorway and looked lustfully at her for a long period of time, making her extremely uncomfortable). She hasn't been able to sleep well and has lost weight.
"I might add my wife is Hispanic, as is Lopez, and she's young and very attractive. She's a Christian and would never consider for a moment having relations with either Borland or Lopez or anyone else.
"I was furious at all this, and went to the Command to file a complaint. It took more than a month for me to finally get it accepted and acted upon. We provided investigators with copies and printouts of the text messages as proof. I've heard nothing since, about the progress of the probe
"It could be that they're hoping I will be kicked out of the Army before there's any resolution of the complaint."
WE INTERVIEW CPT HAMILTON
A MilitaryCorruption.com investigator had the following conversation with CPT Hamilton.
OFFICER'S RECORD NOTHING BUT "OUTSTANDING"
We decided to go back into CPT Hamilton's personnel file and see if we could find anything that might justify him losing his military career. His record was impeccable.
Here's some bullet comments from his last three OERs:
We also found that Hamilton had served two combat tours in Iraq and his 10 year active duty record has been spotless.
A BLEAK CHRISTMAS FOR THE HAMILTON KIDS
With just days left before Christmas, the Hamilton family finds itself devastated by the realization they have been betrayed by officers and so-called "leaders" like the diminutive GEN Bills, who think they can crush the captain and no one will find out about it.
Well, we did. And now, so have our hundreds of thousands of daily readers around the world.
This page is downloaded daily in the Pentagon and at every U.S. military installation in the world. We wouldn't be surprised if the Colorado Springs GAZETTE and Army TIMES are onto this story in a matter of days.
Not a good career move for a mediocre man like Bills, who obviously has been promoted way beyond his capabilities.
THE GENERAL IS A "GRINCH"
In a perfect world, he would be reduced back to the rank of colonel and told to retire for the good of the Army and all concerned.. As for that little punk Lopez, we've seen and busted his kind before. Like cockroaches who scurry for cover at the first sign of daylight, they fear the spotlight MilitaryCorruption.com can shine on them.
You're not a real general, Bills. You're the GRINCH who stole Christmas (and an unjustified $1500 fine) from an honorable man, an Army captain and his children.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: If GEN Bills, SFC Borland or MAJ Lopez want to respond in this space, they are welcome to do so. Contact our editor and your remarks, of course, backed up by facts and documentation, will run unedited.]
