"ONE IN THE OVEN"
We've been critical in the past of all the easy money that found it's way into former Army PFC Jessica Lynch's coffers after she was injured in Iraq and then rescued by American forces from a hospital deep in hostile territory.
But you can't help feeling good about the latest news from the hills of West Virginia. The young ex-soldier, who won fame and notoriety - to say nothing of more than $1 million from her book and other promotions - is pregnant according to her "publicist." (Gee, how many of us can afford to have our own "flak," especially one with a hyphenated name?). Anyway, we wish the prospective mom nothing but the best, and hope the baby will be a real blessing.
It hasn't always been easy sledding for the famous former PFC, what with "nude photos" surfacing from the barracks at Ft. Bliss, Texas. We saw them, and while she is attractive, Jessica isn't exactly PLAYBOY material. Porn publisher Larry Flynt did a kind deed for the gal when he "bought up" the photos and promised not to publish them anytime in the future.
One of our readers who won't be so happy at this news, is Jessica's ex-boyfriend, the one she was going around with, wearing a ring on her finger, declaring him the love of her life.
Former SGT Reuben Contreras met Jessica at a Taco Bell off post, and soon the two were inseparable. In more ways than one. But somehow, the romance fizzled, whether it was Jessica's Hollywood advisors who thought Reuben carried baggage, or a spat behind the scenes scuttled the relationship. It was over.
At any rate, Reuben sure is unlucky. He didn't get to share in any of the big bucks, and now he has to sit back and watch his onetime fiancée (possibly) marry the father of her baby. Life just isn't fair.
It certainly wasn't for the 11 people who died in that ambush in Nasiryah, Iraq back in March 2003. None of them got rich or were used by Pentagon press officers as a poster girl (or boy) for the war. Their names are unknown to much of the public, despite MilitaryCorruption.com's best efforts to bring some of their heroics to light. [See related stories box below].
Jessica isn't to blame for her fame and subsequent fortune. She didn't seek it. It fell into her lap, so to speak. So here's a sincere CONGRATULATIONS to this young woman on her impending motherhood. May she have a happy married life and completely recover from the injuries she suffered three years ago.
