Authorities have identified the shooter in a deadly rampage today at the Washington Navy Yard. Thirteen persons died in the gunfire, including the suspect.
Aaron Alexis, a former sailor and electricians mate who enlisted in the Navy in 2007 and served at the Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, Tex. was positively ID'd from fingerprints taken in Building 197 - the Naval Sea Systems Command.
The mayhem started shortly after 0800 when terrified workers reported a man dressed in dark military garb was on the 4th floor of the structure "firing down" on them in the cafeteria.
NCIS agents, District of Columbia Police, FBI and officers from other law enforcement agencies surrounded the building in the Washington Navy Yard and SWAT teams systematically went from room-to-room and floor- to-floor to bring an end to the bloodbath.
As of press time, police say at least 13 persons were dead, and a number seriously wounded.
What set off the shootings is unknown, but investigators say they have learned Alexis had a history of "anger management problems."
