EXCLUSIVE CONGRESSWOMAN BONO
TO LT GEN IN CHARGE Readers of this military web site, STARS & STRIPES, The ARMY TIMES, and newspapers from Maine to California serviced by The Associated Press, well remember the headline and page one stories. Thanks to a relentless investigation by MilitaryCorruption.com over a span of nearly 18 months, plus the expert work of top-flight attorney John "Bulldog" Wells, we exposed Carlisle Barrack's shameful attempt to "grab" a valuable commemorative .45 cal. handgun belonging to Charles Honeycutt, former aide to the late Gen. of the Army Omar Bradley and his deceased wife Kitty. Knowing Honeycutt to be ill and elderly, and thinking they could add the gold-plated pistol to the Army's collection at the Historical and Education Center at Carlisle Barracks without the aide putting up a fuss, officials under the direction of troubled Gen. David Huntoon illegally took the treasured weapon across state lines. From California and Kitty Bradley's mansion (where it had been on display), to Pennsylvania and the AHEC, they spirited the valuable artifact; then "played dumb" and stonewalled it's angry owner when he discovered the loss of his personal property (verified by ownership papers filed with the ATF). [We urge old and new readers to these pages to "click on" our "Related Stories Box" below, to read the full and complete account of this disgraceful act which was ultimately destined to fail. Mr. Honeycutt publicly praised MilitaryCorruption.com, saying: "Without your help, I never would have gotten that gun back. I and my family will always be grateful to you."] AN OLD SAGE ONCE SAID: "YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE." Well, if Huntoon and his former chief of staff, Col. Mike "NO COMBAT" Colpo (West Point grad, infantry branch, "chair"borne ranger, who managed to avoid any overseas duty in 29 years in the Army), think they're out of the woods as to punishment and taking responsibility for what they did, they've got a big, unpleasant surprise coming. Congresswoman Mary Bono of California - yes, the attractive widow of the late singer Sonny Bono - has written LTG Stanley E. Green, Army Inspector General at the Pentagon, directing him to "undertake a formal review" examining the "practices" of the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks "as they relate to Mr. Honeycutt's case." That's a diplomatic way of saying: "We have seen the overwhelming, documented evidence my constituent's rights were violated and possible illegal and unseemly acts were engaged in by greedy Army officials." Congresswoman Bono, rumored to be a strong candidate for the U.S. Senate from California in the not-too-distant future, has plenty of influence on Capital Hill. She is not about to let the Army get away with a typical "whitewash." That is why her letter, which we have obtained a copy of, was addressed to the top IG general at the Pentagon. AN "OPEN LETTER" TO LTG STANLEY E. GREEN To underline the importance of the Pentagon IG - we know you folks read us daily - not engaging in a cover-up in this case, we are publicly sending this "open letter" to Gen. Green:
HONEYCUTT DESCRIBES "THE HELL I WENT THROUGH" "Huntoon should be fired for the hell he put me and my family through," Honeycutt told MilitaryCorruption.com. "At any time during my long struggle to recover that priceless handgun, the general could have put an end to the ordeal by ordering my pistol returned to me, it's rightful owner. "But they knew I was old and sick and might die soon, so they (Huntoon, his then chief-of-staff, Col. Mike "NO COMBAT" Colpo, and other subordinates at Carlisle Barracks) tried to outlast me. But they miscalculated. They never dreamed I would contact you at MCC and get your help. "With John Wells as my attorney, MilitaryCorruption.com hammering away at them in article after article, and key assistance from ABC's WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pa., we finally forced the Army to return to me what is mine. "But where is any apology? Who's going to reimburse me the thousands of dollars I spent to simply recover my own purloined property? What can compensate me and my dear wife Judy for the agony they put us through? "It's too late for apologies now. The wheels of justice grind slow, but exceedingly fine," the former Gen. Bradley aide warned. "I publicly state here that Huntoon should be fired. And Colpo - the least-decorated bird colonel on West Point (and maybe the entire Army) - should also be forced to retire. That someone with his record of no overseas or combat duty in three decades of active service can be the "wartime" chief-of-staff at West Point is, in my opinion, an insult to those decorated combat veterans who have occupied that office before him. He should be forced to retire now, for the good of the Army. Others involved in this 'rip-off' attempt, and you know who you are, should be severely punished as well. "Until that is done, the cruel and criminal actions of these venal individuals will remain a stain on the memory of America's most beloved general, my boss and dear friend, Omar Bradley." Since illegally transporting a stolen firearm across state lines is a Federal violation, Honeycutt tells MilitaryCorruption.com he is asking both the ATF and FBI to enter this case.
