HOW SWEET IT IS! - USMC LT COL JEFF CHESSANI
GETS JUSTICE AT LAST - MILITARY JUDGE AT CAMP
PENDLETON DISMISSES CASE AGAINST MARINE
OFFICER - AS "UNLAWFUL COMMAND INFLUENCE"
BRASS HAD TRIED TO DESTROY DECORATED
COLONEL IN SO-CALLED HADITHA "KILLINGS"
GEN JAMES MATTIS, HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME
YOU BACK-STABBED A FELLOW MARINE - WAS THAT
FOURTH STAR ON YOUR SHOULDERS WORTH IT?
It was a terrible ordeal, and the odds looked very long indeed against Marine Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani.
The much-decorated and highly-respected former commander of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment in Iraq had been set up to take the fall for gutless, politically-correct, sorry excuses for general officers - chief among them, Gen. James Mattis - who did his disgraceful best to send a better man than he to the Leavenworth DB.
Military judge Col. Steven Folsom was angry when he read his decision, "ruling without prejudice." The honorable Marine justice declared "unlawful command influence" had violated Lt. Col. Chessani's rights. Folsom dismissed all charges. The hacks on the prosecution team have yet to say if they plan to appeal the decision.
The big winner here is Chessani. The loser, in more ways than one, is the man who did his evil best to destroy a fellow Marine officer. James Mattis - once well-thought-of and respected in the Corps - seemed to morph into a man without honor as he pinned on his fourth star and took the witness stand to try and make sure Col. Chessani would be the "scapegoat" for the alleged "Haditha killings" in Iraq four years ago.
KEY TO THIS VICTORY - THE THOMAS MORE LAW CENTER
God bless the Thomas More Law Center of Ann Arbor, Mich. who led the charge against this obvious railroad job. Chessani wasn't even at the scene of the alleged murders when they occurred, but the mindless and "PC genuflecting" Marine top brass tried to hang him out to dry anyway. They failed.
"It's not over yet. We're still looking into the abyss," said attorney Richard Thompson. The top man at TMLC was, of course, being cautious, since the Corps can still show vindictiveness by appealing Judge Folsom's decision. But, they are receiving such a "black eye" in public, especially on this web site, with our more than two million hits a month worldwide, they would be fools to come after Chessani again.
Let the colonel retire from the Marines as he had hoped to do. His departure is your loss, "Devil Dogs," because a good man was set up for destruction by political officers who are a disgrace to the Corps.
GEN. MATTIS BIG LOSER - SHOULD LEAVE THE CORPS NOW
Gen. Mattis, we aren't going to say your "fourth star" promotion, which conveniently came in the midst of this high-profile case, was any "reward' for your perfidy. We wouldn't go that far. But you, sir, are a phony and a hypocrite. Do you remember when you were on the hot seat for ordering a ground and air assault on an Iraqi wedding party in 2004 that resulted in the death of 40 men, women and children?
You came in for criticism then, but your response was: "I don't have to apologize for my Marines." Well you DO have to "apologize" to Col. Chessani and his family for the hell you helped put them through. But we doubt you are man enough to do that.
Why don't you retire now? Just pack it in and leave. Everywhere you go, Marines will know you tried to stick a knife in a fellow officer's back. And, thank God, you failed. Don't let the door hit your sorry butt on the way out!
