ANOTHER "VICTORY" FOR LT. COL. CHESSANI
WHEN NAVY-MARINE CORPS COURT OF CRIMINAL
APPEALS UPHOLDS DISMISSAL OF CHARGES IN
"HADITHA" CASE - RAILROADED OFFICER
MADE SCAPEGOAT BY "POLITICALLY-CORRECT"
BRASS - PANEL AGREES WITH LOWER COURT
RULING CHESSANI VICTIM OF "UNDUE COMMAND
INFLUENCE" - GEN. JAMES MATTIS BACK-STABBED
MARINE OFFICER - TRIED TO SEND HERO COLONEL

FOR FILING APPEAL OF COURT'S DECISION
Chesty Puller must be spinning in his grave, and along with him, such revered Marines as Gens. Smedley Butler and David Shoup - both men, holders of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
There is no "honor" in the disgraceful and despicable actions of present-day Marine Corps "leadership," specifically the craven Gen. James Mattis, who we suggested (see "related stories box" below) retire for the good of the Corps. Unfortunately, this "politically-correct" flag officer, so eager to lick the boots of his masters at the Pentagon, is still drawing a military paycheck.
The "good news" is, there's still a semblance of justice out there when it comes to the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals in Washington. They have just handed down their decision, upholding the ruling of a lower court, that Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, unfairly charged in the so-called "Haditha Massacre" of 2005, was the victim of "Unlawful Command Influence."
OFFICER CHOSEN AS SCAPEGOAT NOT EVEN THERE AT SCENE
OF ALLEGED "CRIME"
For those of you who have been living on Mars or some isolated South Seas island with no Internet connection, Col. Chessani is the highly-decorated former commander of 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine regiment in Iraq.
This combat leader, who served several tours of duty there, after his baptism of fire in the First Persian Gulf War and Panama, was, according to Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, "made a political scapegoat by the Pentagon to appease the antiwar politicians and a liberal media." Thompson contends a misleading headline in TIME magazine "that we know now was instigated by insurgent propaganda operatives" prompted the Haditha prosecutions. That, and the politically-motivated bloviations of hog-jowled Congressman John Murtha, easily the most disliked former "Marine" in the United States, created an atmosphere where Chessani and Marines under his command, were railroaded and thrown to the dogs.
The irony of the hell that Col. Chessani and his family have been subjected to these past four years is, that the 42 year-old career officer wasn't even at the scene of the so-called "massacre," where a number of Iraqi civilians were killed in a house-clearing operation by U.S. Marines who had just come under fire from that location. There can be no doubt that Chessani was chosen to "take the fall" for the Marine Corps. So what if he was unfairly sent to prison and lost his pension? It's the public relations "image" of the Marine Corps and the "PC point total" of the top brass that matter most. Human beings - they're expendable. We know at least one USMC Lt. colonel and several enlisted Marines - two of whom have filed lawsuits for slander against "King of Pork" John Murtha for proclaiming them "guilty" before a court-martial could even convene - who will attest to that.
WILL MARINE "LEADERSHIP" CONTINUE TO TORMENT CHESSANI DESPITE TWO COURT RULINGS OFFICER VICTIM OF ILLEGAL COMMAND INFLUENCE?
Will the persecution of Chessani by the "prosecution" in the Haditha case continue? By all measure of common sense and human decency, the Government should admit they were wrong and back off. Already, the light colonel has endured years of undeserved torment and financial hardship. His military career is over. He's already been grievously harmed by the jackals who brought him to trial.
With an April 16 deadline to decide whether to: (1) ask for a reconsideration of dismissal verdict; (2) appeal up the line to the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (CAAF); or (3) re-file charges and start over again, we would hope this harassment and embarrassment to the Corps would mercifully end. But the Pentagon and Murtha won't accept defeat so easily.
That means the tragic ordeal of Jeffrey Chessani may be far from over.
