Greed got the best of him.

All it took was two cash-stuffed envelopes from a corrupt contractor in Iraq, and Army MAJ Chris Bradley sealed his fate. Not every U.S. officer that is offered bribes and kickbacks gets caught. Most do not. But Bradley was one of the unlucky ones.

Instead of looking forward to a nice retirement check, perhaps even making light colonel before packing it in, now the 42 year-old officer may soon spend time behind bars.

Bradley pleaded guilty in El Paso federal court, thus saving himself from a stiffer sentence. But his military career is over, and he will be an ex-con, no matter how you slice the pie.

SEALED HIS FATE FOR CASH BRIBES

In his admission, the veteran Army officer said he accepted two envelopes, each containing $10,000 in cash. The money was to "look the other way" while a corrupt contractor at Mosul, Iraq received special treatment and access to the base.

The greedy major arrived in-country in January of 2008 and rotated back to the States in November of that year. He had served with the Ninawa Operation Command Military Transition Team.

Part of his crimes were to help the contractor circumvent security procedures concerning the off-loading and re-loading of contractor trucks before they entered the base. This, of course, put his fellow Americans in danger of attack. That no such thing happened, is no credit to Bradley. He deserves what he got when he stupidly kissed away his job and a military pension for $20,000.

Oh, yes. Part of the plea agreement stipulates Bradley pay the twenty grand in restitution. He ends up a "zero" in more ways than one.
