Is this what's it's all come to? Destroying a man's career by blackening his name in the media BEFORE an investigation is even complete? What happened to due process of law? In today's Navy, it's "get out the rope" and add up the brownie points for "political correctness."
We don't know if Command Master Chief Ron Burnett, who has faithfully and well served the United States Navy the past 30 years, is "Jack the Ripper" or not. But we suspect that he is NOT a rapist, that he has never sexually assaulted an enlisted member under his care. He has never been accused of that.
The announcement by the Navy that Burnett has been fired for "inappropriate touching," based on PRELIMINARY "evidence" during an ON-GOING investigation that is INCOMPLETE, takes the breath away. Does this man have any rights at all?
Has the NCIS and skipper of the landing dock ship Ashland, CMDR Scott Curtis, taken into consideration that perhaps the accusation, if not backed up by responsible "witnesses," is based on a "he-said, she-said" dispute? Could this be a case of a lower-ranking sailor trying to "get even" by "getting over?" After all, the quickest way to destroy a man's career in the US military (Air Force generals excluded) is to make a false sex charge.
"CONVICTED IN THE MEDIA"
BY A POLITICALLY-CORRECT NAVY
In this case, if Burnett had been "gone over" by the NCIS with rubber hoses and "confessed" to such a dastardly crime, you can be sure the Navy press flacks would have got that out to the media. So, barring such a "confession," and perhaps lacking witnesses to verify the "inappropriate touching," this chief's three decades of service mean nothing. His pension, and perhaps his freedom, is endangered.
Is the accuser pure as the driven snow? Has she ever been, let us say, "disciplined" by the command master chief? What is her motive? Obviously she has to know any accusation she makes will be eagerly seized upon by gutless career officers and NCIS agents wanting to enhance their own resumé.
Please keep in mind, dear reader, that right after the Aberdeen Proving Grounds "sex crime" witch-hunt in 1996, male officers and NCO's were cautioned that "standing too close" to a female constituted "sexual assault."
FEMALE OFFICERS MADE FALSE ACCUSATIONS
AT 1991 "TAILHOOK" AVIATORS CONVENTION
Have we forgotten the infamous Tailhook Convention of 1991 where former admiral's aide, LT Paula Coughlin, parlayed her instant accuser fame into millions of dollars, while destroying the careers of innocent officers? She scored the big bucks from the Tailhook Association and Hilton Hotels Corp.
In a 2003 story, we exposed the truth about Coughlin picking "perps" out of a line-up who were not even at Las Vegas during the alleged activities. How about the female LT who cried "victim," that is, until pix surfaced of her half-naked, wrapping her legs around a male officer in a hotel room there? Prior to that, she had accused the unlucky flier of RAPE. That could have sent him to prison for 30 years! And what punishment did this liar and fraud get? Nothing! She was allowed to leave the Navy with a slap-on-the-wrist.
Whatever CMC Burnett did, if he did anything at all, doesn't call for him to be tried in the media before his investigation is over. He has honorably served our country for three decades. Let him retire in-grade, with the added knowledge that the "PC police" in our once-proud Navy have used him for their own ends.
