Pass out the beer and pretzels and pull up a chair. Members of the Arizona National Guard haven't had this much entertainment in years. The Guard's two top generals have been engaged in a bitter battle of words. Its top-ranked flag officer just fired his belligerent deputy. "It doesn't get much better than this," laughed a colonel who asked us to not publish his name. "He had it coming."

The 0-6 was referring to Brig. Gen. Michael Colangelo, former assistant adjutant general of the Arizona Guard.

Colangelo was recently fired by his boss, Maj. Gen. Hugo Salazar, who publicly stated he canned the one-star in the wake of an adverse inspector general report. Salazar said he had to pull the trigger on his deputy because of a "breakdown in trust."

Relations between the two men couldn't be worse.

INCREDIBLE E-MAILS FULL OF VITUPERATION

MilitaryCorruption.com has obtained the contents of several extraordinary e-mails sent between the two generals that give one a peek at how much each man loathes the other.

"Sir, your deceit and very obvious dishonorable intentions toward me leaves me no choice but to seek relief outside the immediate chain of command."

Colangelo went on to complain that a critical inspector general report on him - he had fired numerous senior officers for alleged "wrong-doing" - was totally "false" and that Salazar's reprimand and firing of him was "irrational and unfounded."

The adjutant general of the Arizona Guard lost no time in firing back. He wrote Colangelo: "Your e-mail . . . is beyond inappropriate. It is false and blatantly disrespectful . . . effective immediately I am suspending you from the Arizona Guard with an eye toward removal . . . I have lost confidence in your judgment."

EMBARASSMENT FOR THE GOVERNOR

So far, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, head of the state guard, has had no comment. But she can't be pleased that her two top generals are battling and their hatred for one another has been exposed to the general public.

Longtime political observers predict Colangelo's removal will stick. "A two star always can tell a brigadier general to go to hell," said our colonel friend.

Four senior officers who used to be in the Arizona Guard have a special reason to celebrate Colangelo's demise. Brig. Gen. Gregory Stroud, Col. Randolph Straka, Col, Gregg Davies and Lt. Col. Thomas "Buzz" Rempfer (a longtime friend of MilitaryCorruption.com) were fired by Colangelo once-upon-a-time. Now they are enjoying watching their executioner "get what's coming to him."
