LONGTIME AIDE TO GEN. OMAR BRADLEY
APPEALS TO RUMSFELD: "DON'T MAKE
COL MIKE "NO COMBAT" COLPO
CHIEF OF STAFF AT WEST POINT."
CHARLES HONEYCUTT SAYS BRADLEY
"WOULD NOT APPROVE" OF "CHICKEN" COLONEL'S
27 YEARS OF STATESIDE DUTY, FAILURE TO GO
ANYWHERE "IN HARM'S WAY" - COLPO "UNFIT"
TO WALK AMONG "WARRIORS" AT THE POINT
SAYS DISGUSTED GENERAL'S AIDE
The
firestorm over COL Mike "NO COMBAT"
Colpo's pending appointment as the next chief of staff at West Point
continues unabated, as the longtime aide to Gen. of the Army Omar Bradley
appeals to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to "stop this disgraceful
transfer." Colpo, also known as the "(chair)borne" Ranger,
for his 27 years of riding a desk and never going overseas, much less
into combat, is currently the chief of staff at troubled Carlisle Barracks
in Pennsylvania.
"I think it is a disgrace that a full colonel with such a record
can be rewarded in this way, while many other full colonels in the Army
- most with combat decorations and leadership and command experience
- are passed over for this obviously political appointment," said
Charles Honeycutt, longtime aide to Gen. of the Army Omar Bradley.
"Gen. Bradley, a West Pointer himself, would be ashamed that an
academy graduate like Colpo - who is Infantry branch, airborne qualified,
and wears the Ranger tab - could have inexplicably "missed out"
on any combat duty, let alone succeed in avoiding serving one day overseas."
"It is an insult to the faculty, cadets and alumni of West Point
that such an appointment could even be contemplated," Honeycutt
declared. "A CPT Esposito, West Point grad, just lost his life
in Iraq. How can Colpo merit any respect from the cadets when they know
he never used his combat training in the defense of his country?"
The faithful Bradley aide also told MilitaryCorruption.com
Colpo had to have had full knowledge of the deceitful "gun
grab," in which a Carlisle Barracks colonel illegally transported
a handgun belonging to Honeycutt across state lines (federal offense)
to Pennsylvania.
"Colpo is Gen. David Huntoon's right-hand man," Honeycutt
says. "He could have intervened on the side of truth and justice
and returned to me my property with an apology. Instead, the so-called
Carlisle Barracks leadership - and that includes Colpo - dug in their
heels and refused at first to even acknowledge they had my stolen property.
"Only when my attorney, John 'Bulldog' Wells, offered to take the
Army into federal court, did they back down and return the gun to California.
Colpo was in the middle of all this. So WHY is he being "rewarded"
by Rumsfeld? In my opinion, he ought to be told to retire.
Militarycorruption.com has seen the letter
Honeycutt has sent to Rumsfeld, and while we fully support Honeycutt's
position, we are dubious the arrogant and mercurial defense secretary
will "do the right thing" and cancel Colpo's assignment orders.
