Craig Adams has plenty of friends at European Command, and some of them have contacted us to say his sudden ouster by GEN Philip Breedlove was "very unfair."

"It's all about politics," grumbled another observer, who told us he had "the utmost respect" for Adams, and would miss the top-ranking NCO and EUCOM's senior enlisted advisor.

Adams has been reassigned to Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, and the word is, he is putting in his papers for retirement after 28 years wearing Air Force blue.

WHAT'S THE REAL SCOOP?

EUCOM flak, COL David Westover, issued a statement in which he said Adams was relieved due to the general's "loss of confidence in (Adam's) ability to perform his duties." In other words, the usual boiler-plate.

Sources say Adams won't be busted down in rank and will retire in-grade, So the E-9 has decided to call it a career and get out.
