It was April 21 this year when 1LT Joe Dabrowski entered his company commander's office at Fort Sill, Okla. and placed a backpack on the floor beside his chair. Inside was a box and that contained something that got Snow Hall evacuated and the nut officer on his way to a prison cell.
Right in the middle of the meeting, the 27 year-old Lawton, Okla. resident opened a box and removed what appeared to be a mortar shell. Attached to the explosive device was wires leading to an external digital clock. Can you spell B-O-M-B?
"This is my insurance policy," Dabrowski declared.
What he should have said was "this is the end of my military career and freedom, because I am a blithering idiot."
WHERE'S THE MOTIVE?
MilitaryCorruption.com was unable to nail down his motive for such a self-destructive act, except that Dabrowski was not getting along with his commander.
It's kind of like pulling a loaded handgun. If you point it at anyone, be prepared to shoot. Apparently Dabrowski couldn't bring himself to "set off" what turned out to be a fake bomb.
The disturbed LT pleaded guilty to all charges and cut a deal with the feds.
He'd admit what he did was wrong in exchange for time off his sentence.
Dabrowski will have plenty of that - time - to contemplate why he is such a dumb ass. He faces five years in prison along with a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced in October.
