WHITTEN GET "THE BOOT" AT NEWPORT
He couldn't control his urge to be naked, and now Capt. David "Hoss" Geisler - once commodore of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain - finds himself relieved of command.
The hi-jinks started at an alcohol-fueled swimming party beside a Navy apartment complex called "the floating city."
A tipsy female officer decided to take off the top of her bikini, then another female did the same, and soon the male members of the hard-playing party started removing their swim trunks. Geisler, who reportedly was lying back in an inner tube, doffed his, and soon a whole gaggle of officers and enlisted members were nude and making plenty of noise.
Some of the locals complained. Bahrain has its customs, and naked debauchery and drunken behavior isn't one of them.
A CAPTAIN AND HER CMC ARE FIRED
Back in the States, Rear Adm. Elaine Warner, commander of Navy Medicine East, dropped the axe on two of her top personnel at the Navy Health Clinic (New England), headquartered at Newport, R.I.
A survey turned up "poor command climate" at the facility. That, an IG complaint, plus other problems, spelled doom for Capt. Kim Lyons and her CMC Robert Whitten.
Lyons is the sixth Navy commanding officer relieved so far this year. She's been shipped off to a desk at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va. Meanwhile, Whitten is at the Navy sub base at New London, Conn. Sources say he'll be working on getting his retirement papers together. He was the sixth master chief to walk the plank this year.
