MILITARY, NO MATTER HOW BAD A JOB HE DOING
AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

We've been getting lots of e-mail asking us for our take on the Gary Stein case.

He's the Marine sergeant who got an "other-than-honorable" discharge from the Corps. after bad-mouthing President Barack Obama on Facebook.

"Screw Obama," he wrote. "I will not follow orders from him."

Stein later amended his remarks to not obeying "illegal" orders, but by then, his fate was already sealed.

TELLING IT LIKE IT IS

Many of our more conservative readers won't like what we have to say next, but MilitaryCorruption.com always tells it like it is. While we agree Obama is undeserving of re-election, using contemptuous words about him while in the capacity of an active-duty member of the U.S. military is indeed "prejudicial to good order and discipline."

It's not as if Sgt. Stein didn't know what the result of his actions would be.

We extensively covered the LTC Terry Lakin case (see related stories box below) in which a regular Army officer and medical doctor refused to deploy to Afghanistan, not because he agreed or disagreed with the war there, but because he felt he could not obey an order by someone who he believed was not born in the United States, and thus ineligible to be commander-in-chief.

NCO VIOLATED OATH OF ENLISTMENT

The Pentagon crushed Lakin like a bug, as we predicted. He lost his career and did jail time. Might it not have been better for him to keep his low opinion of the black man in the white house to himself? Of course. So Stein had plenty of warning not to jeopardize his military career, but he did it anyway.

"I'm just exercising my constitutional rights to free speech," the San Diego-based Marine complained.

But does he recall taking an oath when he first signed up in the Corps: "I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice?"

That pretty much sums it up. If he didn't know what he was getting into when he wrote those critical words on Facebook, he should have.

BAD JUDGMENT COSTS A MARINE HIS CAREER

We may agree with Sgt. Stein on Obama, but we think the now ex-noncom exhibited bad judgment in his actions. Hopefully, he will be able to find a job out in the civilian world and put his life back together.

It's a shame that he almost made it half way to retirement, perhaps as a gunny sergeant one day. Now he has an OTH on his records, lost his veteran's benefits, and accumulated a lot of negative publicity.

If he'd just kept his mouth shut, he'd still be a Marine today. Sgt. Stein has no one to blame but himself.
