It's the talk of Fort Bragg.
What's the real reason a general officer has been humiliated in headlines across the country? Why would the Pentagon risk such bad publicity, unless it was more important to silence and utterly destroy Jeffrey Sinclair before he could blow the whistle on big time corruption in Afghanistan?
We don't know who pulled the trigger on the former deputy commanding officer of the 82nd Airborne, but you can be sure the approval to "nuke" him came down from a very high source. Like maybe Leon Panetta's office?
NOT A MEMBER OF THE WEST POINT GRAD PROTECTION SOCIETY
Sinclair has been in the Army 26 years, and he's made his share of enemies. But he's also inspired troops, some who've taken the time to write us about the general, back when he was a major and light colonel. One trooper said he'd "follow him (Sinclair) into hell and back."
No "ring knocker" he - Sinclair received his officer's commission through ROTC after graduating from West Virginia University in 1985 - the paratroop general made it all the way to flag rank without being USMA. So, the West Point Graduate Protection Society - are you reading this Gen. Huntoon? - have no dog in this fight. Sinclair, therefore, won't receive a GET OUT OF JAIL FREE Monopoly card in this mess. It looks like instead, he just might be headed to the Leavenworth DB.
Some of you may remember the recent movie THE LAST CASTLE, based upon abuses inflicted upon inmates at the military prison in Kansas. The star of the film, a fictional three-star general, was Robert Redford. He did a good acting job, and the movie was most realistic - we've been there (though not as the Army would wish - as a prisoner) - so we know realism when we see it. But the very fact the role Redford played - that of a senior general - was absolutely ludicrous. Generals rarely if ever get punished for anything.
We may be wrong, but we don't recall a flag officer ever being sent to the Disciplinary Barracks. Certainly no Air Force general would be there, since in the nearly 66-year history of that military service, not one 0-7 and above has been court-martialed, much less shipped off to a prison cell. So what's happening now? What did Sinclair really do to have the very fires of hell brought down upon his head?
PILE ON THE CHARGES - SPITTING ON THE SIDEWALK
The laundry list of charges include: "forcible sodomy, wrongful sexual conduct, wrongfully engaging in personal relationships with subordinates, misuse of govt. travel charge cards, possession of alcohol and pornography while on deployment, maltreatment of soldiers, conduct unbecoming an officer," and the ultimate catch-all - "engaging in conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline."
What? They missed one!
We have it on good authority that one night in 2008, Sinclair was seen spitting on the sidewalk outside the Ft. Bragg Officers Club. Might as well add THAT one to his tab.
PENTAGON PAINTS ITSELF INTO A CORNER
This is no joke. Jeffrey Sinclair is in so much trouble, that we can't see the Army allowing him to retire, even in a lower grade. The COL Johnson fiasco is too fresh in the public's mind.
No, Gen. Sinclair needs to either be found innocent of "forcible sodomy" (another way of saying RAPE) and the other sex charges, or he may finish up his life behind bars.
The Pentagon has painted itself into a corner on this one. Almost always, when you have flag officer misconduct, the general gets to quietly put in his papers and retire out the back door.
ONE GUARD GENERAL WHO GOT AWAY WITH IT
We know a certain brigadier general who served in the New Jersey National Guard who should have been busted and jailed, but he was protected at the highest levels and his crimes were never punished.
His initials we'll delete, but his reign took place in the early 1980's. He was pleasant enough to many of us, but a total whore master, and mean as a pit bull when crossed. Maybe he hated women deep down, because after he was done with them, he tossed them away like garbage.
Here's a case in point. A very attractive young captain we knew was informed that she had been selected to become the first female company commander in the history of the NJARNG. She drove up to headquarters in Lawrence from her unit in southern Jersey, and was ushered into the general's office, where he told her of the impending honor.
But then, he motioned for her to come around his desk and assume the kneeling position. His pants already lowered, the creep forced the frightened woman to perform a sex act on him best known to Monica Lewinsky. As soon as he was done with her, he warned the crying captain if she ever said anything about what had just happened, she would be very sorry indeed.
ANOTHER VICTIM OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE MILITARY
Some years later, our editor was an aide to the late, great Gen. Peter Genovese, and was told first-hand by the one-star what had happened.
"She came to me and begged for help," Genovese said, "but I knew it was impossible to do anything. The governor and TAG would back (Gen. "A") no matter what, and her career would be destroyed as a result. I explained the situation to her - it was her word against the general's - and promised I'd get back at him someday for her if I ever got the chance. But I never had that opportunity," he regretfully recalled.
What happened to the attractive female captain? She had a nervous breakdown, resigned her commission and left the Guard. We never found out what became of her after that. Maybe she's dead after all these years. That, or in a loony bin. Sexual assault against women by high-ranking officers was considered a job "perk" in those dark days.
THE REAL REASON THEY WANT TO GET SINCLAIR
Fast forward to 2012. How could a top general turn into such a sex maniac overnight, as the Army has painted the pasty-looking Jeffrey Sinclair? Was he "set up" by a female sting-artist working for the JAG? Is his utter humiliation "payback" for bucking top brass, or was something he knows so dangerous to them, he had to be destroyed?
We and the American people may never know.
At first, the bird colonel announcing charges against Sinclair at Bragg said any court proceedings - Article 32 hearing and court-martial - would be "open to the public." Then, why is the PAO office refusing to disclose the names of the hearing officer, military and civilian defense attorneys?
Do you really think, dear reader, whatever they decide to do to Sinclair, that reporters will have a front row seat? Maybe they won't, but we're already "on the job," and if anyone can dig out the truth, MilitaryCorruption.com will get it to you.
