COVER-UP AT WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB - COMMAND
CHIEF WILLIAM GURNEY FIRED - NO REASON GIVEN
OTHER THAN USUAL "LOST CONFIDENCE IN ABILITY
TO LEAD" - SOURCE SAYS "BOOZE, BABES, OR
BOTH" MAY BE INVOLVED - TOP NCO AT HUGE AIR
FORCE MATERIAL COMMAND HAS 26 YEARS IN
UNIFORM - BRASS TRYING TO "KEEP LID ON" WHAT
HAPPENED - IS THIS ANOTHER GEN. SCHWARTZ
"MAJ JILL METZGER" WHITEWASH? - MORE OF
"DIFFERENT SPANKS FOR DIFFERENT RANKS?"
The top brass are trying to keep a lid on what really happened in the case of one of the Air Force's highest ranking and most powerful chief master sergeants who was recently fired as command chief at the huge USAF Material Command at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
Hard-charger William C. Gurney is the top-ranking enlisted man there whose career suddenly hit a serious road bump. The native of New York state joined the Air Force in 1983 and rapidly rose through the enlisted ranks.
AFMC's commander, Gen. Donald J. Hoffman, "pulled the plug" on Gurney, but is using the usual boiler-plate excuse, "lost confidence" in Gurney's ability to perform his duty, as reason for taking down a very senior Air Force non-com.
ONCE AGAIN - A "DOUBLE-STANDARD OF JUSTICE" AT WORK
The fact that PAO types at Wright-Pat and the Pentagon want to keep this one quiet indicates that old axiom of "different spanks for different ranks" may be at work here.
Our many thousands of Air Force readers haven't forgotten the outrage of USAF top JAG, former Gen. Thomas J. Fiscus, getting a "slap-on-the wrist" for sex with two dozen women; or Col. Michael Murphy, disbarred as an attorney by two states for over 20 years, concealing that fact and getting off scot free. What about the pampered and protected Maj. Jill Metzger? (See related stories box below.)
That case is one of the biggest blots on justice in Air Force history! But chief of staff, Gen. Norton Schwartz, apparently is content to protect one of his top generals - bloat-faced "bully-boy" four-star Gary North - and has resisted all attempts to find out how alleged liar and fraud Jill was able to "scam" a 100% "disability" pension for PTSD when her tall tales of kidnap and escape are widely believed to be outright fabrications.
It's one thing to avoid court-martial or any punishment whatsoever for a laundry list of possible UCMJ offenses - from AWOL and making a false official statement, to adultery and fraternization - but the two-time winner of the Air Force Marathon and former Air Force poster girl has a retired colonel "daddy" and young OSI agent "husband."
SPECULATION THROUGHOUT AIR FORCE ON WHY GURNEY GOT THE AXE
Gurney is well-connected in the Air Force power structure, as well, so one has to wonder how bad his possible "transgressions" are for him to be publicly canned like he was.
"The truth will come out one day," retired C/Msgt "Buddy" McFaddin told a MilitaryCorruption.com reporter. ""I'll bet it will be either booze, broads, or both."
Morale among the rank-and-file can't be high when everyone knows a master sergeant E-7 or tech sgt. with no friends in high places would have the book thrown at them and reasons for it given out. How many times must we say "different spanks for different ranks" is poisonous to the military? You can't operate on two systems of justice, even though the Air Force top brass have been getting away with that for years.
It's time for a thorough "house-cleaning" at the highest levels of the Air Force. Trouble is, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates either doesn't care or is too preoccupied being Barry Obama's water boy to do something about the corruption that's an on-going insult to our great men and women who wear Air Force blue.
Why doesn't Gen. Schwartz show his enlisted members and junior officers the same respect and treatment he bestows upon his powerful pals? Moseley was bad, but why can't we get a top general who is really as clean as his fawning press clips would indicate? Schwartz has sadly fallen way short of the standard.
