RACE FOR NORTH TEXAS HOUSE SEAT

The Democrats have had a lot of success this year in recruiting veterans and members of the military reserves to run against embattled Republicans for House and Senate seats.  Many of the candidates, like Vietnam vet James Webb, Ronald Reagan's former Secretary of the Navy, are former Republicans.  It's a smart move, as the left-leaning Democrats usually have trouble winning more than a small slice of that part of the electorate.

In Texas, they recruited Army Reserve MAJ David Harris to run against incumbent Republican Congressman Joe Barton in the 6th District of North Texas.  Now, with the Army close to preferring court-martial charges against the Iraq War vet, his chances of going to Washington as an elected official have gone from slim to none.

The trouble began for Harris when his former girlfriend, Jennifer Vaughan, got busted from staff sergeant to airman first class in the Texas Air Force Reserve.  She had been Army in Harris's unit before transferring to the "blue suiters" when she got back to the States from Iraq.  Her Command found out about the affair, and after she admitted having sex with MAJ Harris, she was reduced in rank.

THE EX-GIRLFRIEND GETS MAD AND GETS EVEN

That didn't sit very well with the attractive 33 year-old enlisted woman, who thought her field-grade "pal" ought to be punished as well.  So she turned over explicit copies of their e-mail correspondence and other incriminating evidence to Army investigators.  Before long, the CID had built a case on Harris, and they notified him he was in deep trouble.

"Nobody's perfect," he wrote on his web site, vowing to stay in the race for Congress and work on saving his marriage to the mother of his two children.  But the former ROTC instructor at North Texas University and member of "Veterans for Peace" looks like he's going to lose more than an election by the time voters go to the polls on November 7th.

[EDITOR'S NOTE to all our readers at military bases in CONUS and overseas:  If you know of any officer, male or female, that is having an affair with a subordinate in your unit, please notify us at once at staff@militarycorruption.com. Your identity will be protected. This request also applies to members of the National Guard and Reserves, where plenty of "hanky-panky" goes on, and where "different spanks for different ranks" is unfortunately most prevalent.]
