COAST GUARD CAPTAIN AND NAVY DOCTOR
HIT WITH SEX CHARGES - "4-STRIPER" HERBERT
"MARK" HAMILTON IN ALASKA AND LT CMDR TONY
VELASQUEZ ASSIGNED TO JAPAN - BOTH COULD GO
TO COURT-MARTIAL - "VICTIMS" TESTIFY AT ART
32 PRELIMINARY HEARING AT YOKOSUKA NAVAL
BASE - "OFFENSES" OCCURRED IN JAPAN/KUWAIT
Some doctors are "touchy-feely," but this is ridiculous. If accusers are telling the truth, Navy doctor, LT CMDR Anthony Velasquez fondled and violated many of them during what was supposed to be routine medical examinations.
One female, testifying at the officer's Article 32 hearing at Yokosuka Naval Station in Japan, claimed she went to the doc for a sore back and instead got a gynecological test.
The accused physician, facing "wrongful sexual contact" charges, allegedly abused 15 female patients - from PVT to LTC - that he "treated" at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and also in Japan. The accusations include "unwanted touching" plus "inappropriate comments." The incidents supposedly took place between December 2008 and June of this year.
Defense attorney Gary Myers points out some of the women kept coming back to the doc, even after they were allegedly "offended" by his office manner.
Rear Admiral Richard Wren, commander of all Naval forces in Japan, has the authority to take this case to court-martial, or, at the other extreme, drop the charges as without basis of fact.
A "HOT TIME" APPARENTLY HAD UP IN COLD ALASKA
Meanwhile, way up in Alaska, handsome Coast Guard Capt. Herbert "Mark" Hamilton has been charged with 31 counts, including sodomy, indecent acts, and that old-standby, "conduct unbecoming an officer."
The four-striper, who was in charge of the Anchorage, Alaska sector, was relieved of his duties in May.
A date has not been set for Hamilton's Article 32 hearing.
The Coast Guard senior officer's fate lies in the hands of Rear Admiral Christopher Colvin, who is top dog and district commander in Alaska.
