For a long time, Henry Holloway had it made.
The well-paid AAFES manager at Osan AFB in Korea collected some $70,000 in bribes during the years 2001 - 2005. The "pay-offs" came in the form of cash money, booze and prostitutes.
When Holloway transferred to Ft. Benning, Ga. as AAFES manager, it appeared he'd gotten away with his criminal activity overseas. But it was not to be. Investigators started closing in on him in 2007. He quickly admitted his fraud when put under intensive interrogation.
HOLLOWAY "ROLLS OVER" ON KOREAN BRIBE-GIVER
Trying to reduce his jail time, the corrupt executive "spilled the beans" on his co-conspirator in Korea, oily businessman Jeong Gi-Hwan.
Holloway said his "pal" provided him with the bribes as long as he "looked the other way" while SSRT (Samsung Rental Company Ltd.) ripped off American GI's and dependants with inferior phone and Internet service. Despite many complaints from customers, SSRT still landed a $206 million contract with AAFES.
"Good Ole" Henry saw to that.
But such blatant action attracted the authorities, and it didn't take long to figure out why the price gouging and poor service was allowed to continue unabated.
BOTH CROOKS GET FINES AND PRISON TIME
Crook Jeong Gi-Hwan will have five years in the federal pen to contemplate his guilt. That's two years longer than his former friend Holloway. The Korean businessman also had to cough up a $50,000 fine when he was sentenced in Dallas, Tex. late last year.
Holloway was fined $5000 in Columbus, Ga. federal court and ordered to forfeit some $70,000, the value of his ill-gotten gains during his bribery days in Osan.
