COHENS LEGACY OF FAILURE:
INSIDE THE CID
By SGT RICHARD EDWARDS*
Our job was to enforce the law, but more times than not, we ended up breaking it. This was the paradox I faced as a young Criminal Investigation Division (CID) agent.
To us, the Constitution didnt matter. Due process was a legal term we paid little attention to. We didnt have to. Our officers and commanders used us to plant evidence, settle scores, and target people the brass didnt like.
All the illusions I had about honesty and integrity and learning to be a good cop that all went out the window, almost from the first day I became a CID agent.
FOR DIFFERENT RANKS
One was accused of sodomy and rape; the other, misuse of government services, violating joint ethics regulations, and engaging in an "improper relationship" with the wife of an enlisted soldier.
Both were bird colonels and both got off with a "slap on the wrist." So what else is new?
Few things are more destructive to morale in the military than the "top brass" getting favored treatment. But it happens all the time.
MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE -
Forget the Bill of Rights and civilian concepts of a justice system, including the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) was designed and is perpetuated primarily to reinforce the command structure. In other words, the "fix" is in.
Lance Corporal Kevin Holt, USMC, was arrested by the San Diego, Calif. Sheriff's Department on May 17, 1992 while home on leave in Washington State. He was on his way home from church with his fiancee, whom he was due to marry in three days. He was 21 years old.
What has become a nine-year "nightmare" had just begun.
IOWA EXPLOSION - HOW THE NAVY
FAILED TO PUNISH A FEMALE
OFFICER'S VENDETTA AGAINST HIM
It was one of the most heroic acts in the annals of the US Navy, and if it had occurred in wartime, Petty Officer John Mullahy would have won the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Instead, he was the victim of a vendetta so vicious and unrelenting, his Navy career and life was ruined. His enemy, now-retired USN Capt. Patricia Rios, daughter and only child of Vice-Admiral John Barrow (now deceased), is alleged to have gone to great lengths to "punish" Mullahy for what he calls "refusing to obey an illegal order."
After an extensive investigation by MilitaryCorruption.com, we have concluded Mullahy acted properly and was "guilty" of no more than arousing the hatred of an officer who would go to any length to harass and harm him.
WAS IT MURDER OR SUICIDE?
"They might as well have killed him, because what they did drove him to his death!"
Maria, widow of CW2 Luis Rodriguez-Martinez, whose lifeless body was found in an isolated section of the Franklin Mountains last November, was hurt and angry when she was interviewed by MilitaryCorruption.com at her El Paso, Texas home.
"My husband gave many years to the Army and he helped so many people. But in the end, it was the Army that destroyed him, and very few 'friends" remained." Earlier articles in MilitaryCorruption.com detailed how Chief Rodriguez-Martinez was railroaded and finally sentenced on trumped-up charges at his court-martial to ten years in Leavenworth Prison.
THE HEALTH OF THE US MILITARY
Al Capone would have been proud.
Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. William J. Crowe Jr. was part of the crew that sold Saddam Hussein the deadly means to wage war with anthrax germs. That's when the United States wanted the "Butcher of Baghdad" to use anthrax on Iran.
MURDER IN THE MILITARY
Jimmy Sabow was one of America's best. A full colonel in the US Marine Corps, he served bravely in Vietnam flying 221 combat missions in an A-6 Intruder.
At the time of his death, he was the Assistant Chief of Staff at El Toro, MCAS, California.
It is the nature of that death that is in dispute. The Marine Corps says it was "suicide" by shotgun.
After an exhaustive study of the NIS investigative file; death photos and autopsy records; ballistics test results and other medical files; court records and detailed statements by Col. Sabow's brother, Dr. J. D. Sabow, MilitaryCorruption.com contends the real cause was MURDER.
