FORMER SEAL JASON MULLANEY"You were my closest friends - my buddies - and I failed you," former SEAL Jason Mullaney sobbed in San Diego Superior Court.

He was referring to Trident Financial Holdings and Acquisitions, which went belly up in 2012 after Mullaney's Ponzi Scheme exploded in his face.

The 43 year-old onetime "sea warrior" vowed to pay back his victims, many of them SEALS on active duty or retired, but that goal will be difficult to reach. Investigators tell MilitaryCorruption.com Mullaney burned through almost $1.2 million in other people's money.

Living in expensive apartments and driving several luxury cars led to him becoming broke and homeless when the financial bubble burst.

SUPPORT FROM HIS "VICTIMS" IN COURT

Ironically, three of his SEAL pals who'd served with him in the past, forgave his swindle and testified they were sure he "didn't really intend" to defraud them. "He trusted the wrong people and made some bad decisions," said one supportive friend.

Judge Frederick Maguire sentenced Mullaney to the shortest incarceration the law allows in California.

The disgraced SEAL got six years and eight months in the slammer, but he will be free long before then, as he has been locked up in the county jail the past three years. With
time off as well for "good behavior" - Mullaney's defense attorney cited his client's "clean record" up until this criminal act - the 13-year Navy veteran could be out on the street before the end of this year.

ONE EXCUSE WAS MULLANEY SUFFERED FROM "PTSD"

In a plea deal with the prosecution, he admitted he engaged in securities fraud, tax evasion and three counts of grand theft.

Before he was hauled away in handcuffs, Judge Maguire had some stern words for the
chastened crook who claimed PTSD and the Devil made him do it::

"You tarnished the good SEAL name. You screwed up. Now you're going to have to take your lumps for what you have done."
