FOR BEING "POLITICALLY INCORRECT?"
We haven't had so much fun since we caught former Pentagon PAO, Lt. Cdr. Daniel Hetlage, sending us unsigned, profanity-laced e-mails questioning our "patriotism" after we blasted his megalomaniacal boss, then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
Long-time readers of MilitaryCorruption.com will recall we traced the sycophantic press officer through his IP number and received a written apology from his colonel boss after we demanded one on our desk "in 72 hours." We are the only news organization during the Bush years to ever get such an acknowledgement that one of their Pentagon flacks had stepped way over the line.
Well, now we have the pleasure of sitting back and watching a battle between a veteran PAO, Navy CDR Jeff Gordon, and the heavy-set, leftist reporter for the Miami Herald, Carol Rosenberg. We don't have a "dog" or even a "pig" in this fight, so it'll be amusing to see how the spat shakes out.
Will Gordon's bosses, who usually genuflect in the approved "politically-correct" manner, punish the angry public affairs officer, who alludes in a letter to a bigwig at the Herald that Rosenberg has repeatedly questioned his masculinity? Stay tuned.
"STICKS AND BONES MAY BREAK MY BONES, BUT WORDS WILL . . ."
Gordon contends he has been the victim of a "pattern of sustained abuse" by the Herald's military affairs reporter. In the missive, written to the executive editor, Anders Gyllenhaal, the PAO cites "abusive and degrading comments of an explicit sexual nature against me and others at Guantanamo and Andrews Air Force Base."
The Navy commander says he has been in "consultation" with Department of Defense and Justice Dept. attorneys. Calling Rosenberg a "bully," the veteran officer says he is highly-offended by the reporter's "harsh invective" and "vile and repulsive comments, not made in a joking tone."
We are not publishing photos of the "combatants" because a cursory case might be made for both being, let us say, less than "macho" or "feminine" in appearance. Rosenberg is so aggressive and beefy that she could be a fullback on the Miami Dolphins football team. And Gordon would never be mistaken for the "Marlboro man."
If we had to pick one over the other in this fight, we'd say Rosenberg has been obnoxious and over-the-top in her nasty behavior towards the Pentagon press flack. Her editors ought to make her "apologize" for her unprofessional behavior. But chances are, they, and some of her fellow "progressives," will rally around her in the name of "press freedom" and nothing will be done.
WILL PENTAGON "POLITICALLY-CORRECT" POLICE CHASTISE GORDON?
Of course, there's always the chance the Navy brass will call "retreat" and send Gordon to an early "retirement." If they do that, it'll just encourage Rosenberg and others of her ilk to be even more abusive and "in-your-face."
Her language, directed at Gordon and others (even some of her own liberal "mainstream media" colleagues) is so foul-mouthed and scatological that we can't reproduce it here. Yes, it's THAT bad! Rosenberg's reporting, sympathetic to the terrorists at Gitmo, has long irritated the White House, but her foul-mouthed tirades are infamous for an ability to get "down and dirty."
Rosenberg regularly calls female colleagues "bitches, stupid, lazy and Nazis." That's some of her softer invective. You don't want to hear the rest.
IF YOU'RE A LEFTIST ON THE HERALD (WHO ISN'T?)
We wonder how long such a person would last on the liberal Democrat Miami Herald if they acted like that and were a "conservative?". Rosenberg even makes Ann Coulter seem like a Sunday School teacher in comparison.
Gordon says he wants a "thorough investigation" of Rosenberg's alleged behavior and insists that his antagonist be "appropriately disciplined."
We're afraid THAT will happen - to borrow a perhaps appropriate phrase - "when PIGS fly through the air!"
[EDITOR'S NOTE: A "hosanna" and "well-done" to the web site FishbowlDC.com. They got their mitts on the letter from Gordon to the Miami Herald honcho and published it in full on their pages. We just love the discomfort that must have brought to the Jill Metzger apologists in the Pentagon press office.]
