For the second time in a month, top Air Force brass have "pulled the trigger" on a senior officer.
Col. Joel Westra, former commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB in No. Dakota, is the latest bird colonel to get the axe. He may not be the last.
Just a couple weeks earlier, Col. Christopher Ayers, also at Minot, was fired as commander of the 91st Missile Wing. The explanation for his relief of command was Air Force leadership had "lost confidence in his ability to lead."
Westra was canned for "an inability to foster a climate of excellence; lack of focus on the strategic mission; and substandard performance during several nuclear safety inspections."
Translation: both Westra and Ayers can start putting in for retirement right now. If they had any hopes of making flag rank, that is gone for good.
AIR FORCE CHIEF-OF-STAFF CONTINUES MAJ. METZGER COVER-UP
It's interesting to see how quickly Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Norton Schwartz, will sign off on firing wing commanders - Westra's predecessor was also sacked in 2007 in the wake of the embarrassing B-52 nuclear bomb flight from Minot to Barksdale AFB, La. - but he remains silent and impotent while most of the rank-and-file know he's "sitting on" the Maj. Jill Metzger cover-up.
For new readers, not aware of the pampered and protected one's unique status and place in Air Force lore, click on the SEARCH button under our masthead, type in "Jill Metzger," and read the 18 stories we have written exposing this disgrace since the deception first began three years ago.
Is there one standard of justice for USAF poster girl Jill, two-time winner of the Air Force Marathon, and another for the common folk? Does her retired colonel "daddy" have a lot of pull with the top brass, or is it her young OSI agent "husband" and his hard-nosed father, also OSI, who have helped Jill escape any responsibility for her actions?
We wouldn't be so put out at Metzger's favored treatment if the powers that be didn't rub salt in the wound by "rewarding" her misconduct and lies with a dubious 100% "disability" pension for PTSD. It stands to reason that if she faked her abduction, the proper course would be take her to court-martial, not wrap a cocoon around her, stonewall the timid and politically-correct media - all except for us and the great Cliff Kincaid - and pay her off with a big bucks, tax-free pension that genuinely disabled and wounded veterans have to fight years to get at the VA.
Is Gen. Gary North, the bloat-faced bully who stabbed two of his own officers in the back in Afghanistan - use SEARCH button for him, too - so powerful that Schwartz cowers in his presence? Is the Air Force "leadership" so corrupt they would allow such a miscarriage of justice to exist? Aren't there penalties for "pension fraud" under federal statutes? And who ordered those two junior officer doctors at Randolph to "diagnose" Jill with PTSD before they even saw her?
GENERAL CURTIS LeMAY WOULDN'T PUT UP WITH THIS FOR ONE MOMENT
What would the great Gen. Curtis LeMay think of such a stinking kettle of fish! He would FIRE any and all people involved and give Jill her day in court under the UCMJ. "Let the chips fall where they may."
We hear through the grapevine that arrogant Jill is agitating to come back into the Air Force, full-time. Wow! How would you like to snap off a salute to her? The enlisted ranks are wise to her, as are many of the officers. What kind of "respect" would be due this little princess?
Actually, Jill, you need to just GO AWAY and count yourself lucky. Cash that fat non-taxable pension check every month and write your "story," if you think anyone will believe or publish it. Try to get on Oprah. Play the "victim." Cash in some more. Run a few more marathons, even though you're getting old. But don't be foolish enough to think that the likes of Gary North are going to let you come back on active duty and pose a risk to his career. That's not how they do business.
