A former Army Ranger and 4.0 student at the University of Kentucky is the object of a multi-state manhunt after cutting off his ankle monitor and fleeing the area just prior to returning to a Lexington courtroom to hear the verdict in his rape and sodomy trial.

John C. Buckley IV, according to court papers, is a decorated veteran of five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan when he was a junior NCO in a Ranger battalion. Friends say he was wounded in action and suffers from PTSD.

Local police, who've had several run-ins with Buckley in the last couple years, describe him as "violent" and a "danger to the public." They advise anyone spotting the Kentucky man to not try and apprehend him, to instead call 911 at once.

The 29 year-old ex-soldier must have feared he would be found guilty before he fled. The jury did just that on charges Buckley raped his ex-girlfriend. They proceeded to the sentencing phase and recommended he do a 20-year stretch in the state prison.

FILMED SEX ASSAULT ON DIGITAL CAMERA

It was May 29, 2010, prosecutors say, when Buckley, enraged that his girlfriend had dumped him for another man, threatened to put her nude pictures on the Internet unless she came to see him in his apartment. According to police, once there, he forced the young woman to perform a certain sex act and "bit and choked" the victim during the sexual assault.

The graphic images were recorded on the fugitive's digital camera and the attack viewed by the jury as part of evidence in Buckley's trial.

Now the former Ranger - if apprehended - faces additional charges, including escape. Police say when they arrested Buckley, a search of his apartment yielded an assault rifle, handgun, shotgun, body armor and plenty of ammunition.
