Whatever caused retired Army LTC Ken Yi to flip out and murder his wife and daughter last June, one thing is certain. He admitted his guilt in the heinous crime from day one.
According to Yi and investigators on the scene, the 1986 West Point graduate used a weightlifter's barbell to snap the neck of his teenage daughter Joy and beat to death her mother Hyon.
Defense attorney Andrew Elders said "the devil made him (Yi) do it," and the Korean-American colonel maintained he must have been "insane" at the time of the slayings. "He was depressed and mentally ill," the lawyer proclaimed.
The murders took place June 13, 2010 at Yi's Lorton, Va. apartment.
THE REST OF HIS LIFE BEHIND BARS
A 50 year-old former enlisted man, Yi had graduated USMA and then compiled a "so-so" career as an average staff officer.
Apparently real estate losses and fear that he could lose his civilian working job for the chief of information at NGB (National Guard Bureau) may have been enough to cause him to go over the edge.
During his sentencing, Yi expressed regret that now he won't be able to "visit the graves" of his wife and daughter, both of whom he brutally murdered.
The killer colonel will have a long time to think about his senseless crime. The judge gave him 40 years in the slammer. Former LTC Yi is now "inmate Yi," with no hope of ever being a free man again.
