If GEN "Kip" Ward had to do it all over again, you can be sure he would not have lived so "high on the hog" with his huge-spending spouse.

After a long investigation, the results were forwarded to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. The soon-to-be leaving defense chief dropped a hammer on Ward's head, stripping him of one of his previous four stars, and fining the general more than $82,000.

Eyebrows were raised when Ward brought along his wife on trips to Paris and other foreign locations. A large entourage of hangers-on went on that journey as well as to other exotic locales.

NOW GENERALS GET "IN TROUBLE," TOO

This is a bad time for flag officers to be acting up.

Just this week, former top Army general David Petraeus had to resign as CIA director when he got caught in a sex scandal. His friend in Afghanistan, Marine GEN James Allen, is the latest top brass hat to get ensnared in the Paula Broadwell/Jill Kelley sex scandal.

It was the DOD Inspector General's office that investigated the charismatic Ward and determined he had indeed allowed his wife to use military vehicles to go back and forth to the department store.

Court papers showed the couple spent an evening in Bermuda on Uncle Sam's dime, to the tune of $750 a night.

GEN. Carter Ham, who succeeded Ward as top general there, was himself shoved aside and may not have a chance to testify at Congressional hearings.
