MEANTIME - ARMY BRASS EAGER TO CRUSH
COLONEL - "BRING OUT THE BRASS KNUCKLES"
As we've said before (see related stories box below) we don't have a dog in this fight. To go up against Obama and his media allies on the birth certificate question is a losing proposition. Others have tried (remember MAJ Stefan Cook?) and all have failed.
LTC Terrence Lakin, the decorated Army doctor and veteran of combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, is throwing away his pension for nothing. No way is he going to force the White House to put to rest once and for all the troubling question of whether or not the present "commander-in-chief" is even eligible to be President of the United States.
While we wouldn't put anything past Mr. "Real Hope and Change," it seems to us it makes more sense to just vote him out of office like Carter was after four years of failure. So far, all the well-meaning "Birthers" have accomplished is to become perceived in the public eye as a bunch of "crazies," tilting at a windmill. As much as we admire Lakin's willingness to sacrifice 18 years of outstanding military service, refusing a deployment order until he sees Obama's real birth certificate, odds are, the colonel's efforts are doomed.
ANOTHER LOW-LIFE PUNK AMONG THE ARMY JAG CORPS
We've discussed before the poor quality of JAG officers in today's Army, MAJ Dan Woolverton, admitted child molester, being a prime example, but add a new name to the list. A jack-booted thug named Stephen Brodsky. This light colonel and military lawyer apparently is so eager to prosecute Lakin and gather his "brownie points" that he's willing to engage in illegal acts himself.
For example, at a recent hearing where it was announced that LTC Lakin was to face court-martial in October, during a break in the proceedings, Brodsky could be heard in the courtroom hallway loudly proclaiming that he wasn't going to allow the Army doctor to "sign autographs or kiss babies." No, his advice to an equally nasty COL Melanie Craig was "just taser him (Lakin) and throw him in the van."
Does that sound like a professional person, an officer of the court, someone fair-minded, interested in justice for all? Or is it the smart-ass attitude of a JAG who can hardly believe his good fortune in being the one designated to destroy an "enemy of the state?" That ought to be worth a promotion to full bird, don't you think?
NO QUESTION THE THREAT WAS MADE
If Lakin had any doubt about what he heard, what happened immediately afterward, confirmed it.
"There was no question in my mind," he said, " that LTC Brodsky meant for me to hear (and be intimidated) by his words. When (my escort officer) COL Craig returned to where I was standing, she said to me: 'You probably heard all that, didn't you?' I replied it would have been hard not to.
"After the hearing, my lawyers asked COL Craig for permission for me to speak to the press, since both CNN and NBC had sent camera crews, but she rudely refused and ordered me back into her vehicle for the return ride to Walter Reed."
WHAT WILL IT BE? "SUICIDE," A TRIP TO THE MENTAL HOSPITAL,
OR A COURT-MARTIAL CLOSED TO MEDIA COVERAGE?
If a thug like Brodsky is comfortable making threats, what lies in store for LTC Lakin? It's two months before his court martial begins on Oct. 13 and a lot can happen in the meantime.
He can always be "suicided," or perhaps shipped off to a mental hospital for "evaluation."
As an active duty officer, any "misfortune" that might happen to the outspoken officer would be investigated, perhaps, by the perpetrators themselves.
Lakin should make sure to have his will updated and affairs in order, just in case. It seems, unless the Army closes proceedings to the press, that Obama might mistakenly create a martyr in the process of attempting to "make an example" of the defiant doctor. And that is not going to help the President with his plummeting popularity polls less than 90 days before the crucial mid-term elections.
