A "suicide watch" has been ordered on Army PFC Bradley Manning, informed sources have told MilitaryCorruption.com The pint-sized private and gay activist, who is accused of leaking thousands of sensitive military documents to a left-wing web site, has been held in solitary confinement at the Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia since arriving in the U.S. from Kuwait late last month.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) told a local radio station in his home state that "people will likely be killed" because of the information Manning allegedly leaked. "That's pretty serious. If they (the Army) don't charge him with treason, they ought to charge him with murder." The congressman based his statement on his belief that the 22 year-old private "put soldiers at risk who are fighting for our country."
Manning is keeping his mouth shut, not co-operating with authorities, and is expected to ask for a civilian attorney in the next few days. Already there are hints the Army and Pentagon will try and close court martial proceedings to the media, using the excuse information released in an open session might damage "national security."
MANNING CASE A "POLITICAL TIME BOMB" FOR OBAMA
The Obama Administration has a further problem with the Manning case in that the diminutive soldier is an openly effeminate homosexual who makes no bones about his proclivities on his FACEBOOK page, as reported by MCC on Monday [see related stories box below]. As long as the "commander-in-chief" could take big donations from the gay lobby and still not keep his campaign promise to get rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT), he might be able to minimize political damage. But if the government is seen as coming down on Manning like a load of bricks, the Democrat in the White House could suffer serious political erosion that he can ill-afford just 90 days before the mid-term elections.
Our sources tell us any court-martial for Manning will be delayed until after election day. The reasons are obvious.
It's certain a lot of hyperbole will be hurled by both sides in this battle before its over. Already, the Manning leaks are being compared to that of Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers revelations of 1971. Army prosecutors will have to show that the private deliberately endangered or cost the lives of Americans, to make a treason charge stick. Opponents of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan undoubtedly will make Manning a hero and martyr if he is sent away to prison for a long stretch.
HOW DID A LOW-RANKING SOLDIER
HAVE ACCESS TO TOP-SECRET MATERIAL?
One place he won't want to go to, and probably won't be sent, is Leavenworth. The five foot, two inch tall, 110 pound "Lindsey Graham look-a-like" wouldn't last very long in the DB shower room. Officials would have to keep him isolated from the prison population and locked down in solitary for the length of his term. Any physical harm that might come to the slightly-built soldier would cause great consternation in gay circles, not something "politically-correct" politicians in Washington want to deal with, already burdened by a deep recession and growing unpopularity of the "real hope and change" charlatan who now serves as President of the United States.
More and more questions arise from just HOW a low-ranking soldier with a record of disciplinary problems - Manning was recently busted one stripe from SPC to PFC for fighting with a fellow G.I. - and openly proclaiming leftist political views and gay pride on FACEBOOK, could escape the attention of the DSS or other investigatory agencies. If the materials Manning allegedly leaked are as damaging as some officials hint, other heads must roll, who allowed such a serious breach of security.
A good place to start would be with the dummies that cleared Manning for a TOP-SECRET clearance. How much actual investigation was done on this soldier? Or was his clearance just "rubber-stamped" by some drone and our nation's military secrets made available to a person who may have severe emotional problems? As you read these words, the fingers are being pointed and plausible denials readied to save the careers of officers who should get the axe for this lack of supervision. But, as usual, if any discipline is meted out, it won't be given to those in high rank. Fall guys will be found, and the Army will have their pound or two of flesh.
