Gen. Stanley McChrystal has been fired. The top general in Afghanistan who embarrassed and angered his boss in the White House one time too many was told in a face-to-face meeting that he has been replaced.

The tall flag officer with the "deer-in-the-headlights" eyes didn't know that minutes before, President Barack Hussein Obama had offered his job to Gen. David Petraeus, and that the successful leader of the Iraq "troop surge" had accepted. MilitaryCorruption.com has learned that McChrystal was caught flat-footed by the change, figuring he might still somehow survive his most recent gaffe in which he and his staff made disparaging remarks about Obama and key Administration officials in ROLLING STONE magazine.

Calling it "poor judgment," we call it just plain stupid, McChrystal gave incredible access to a reporter for a left-wing publication that has often been critical of U.S. military policy in Iraq and Afghanistan. Apparently Obama realized the flawed general had to go, and chose a man who should easily win Senate confirmation. The only question-mark is whether or not Petraeus, who collapsed during a recent Congressional hearing, is well enough to take on the tremendous strain of trying to turn around America's so-far losing effort to defeat the enemy in Afghanistan.

CANDIDATE OBAMA HAD BEEN CRITICAL OF BUSH'S GENERAL IN IRAQ

It must have been ironic for Petraeus to be offered the top job, since two years ago, Obama was highly critical of then President George Bush and the "troop surge" in Iraq. It was Gen. Petraeus who is primarily responsible for the much-improved military situation there. An intensely-driven and ambitious man, the much-decorated officer is perhaps the only general who can turn things around for the U.S. in Afghanistan.

"This is a change in personnel, not policy," Obama said. He declared McChrystal's disrespectful remarks "undermined civilian control of the military" and said he was making the change because "war is bigger than any one man or woman, whether a general, private or president."

As for Gen. McChrystal, he will go down in the history books as the military chief who was fired because of a magazine article. That it was in a well-known, anti-war, left-wing publication and not TIME or some "establishment" organ, makes the case all the more bizarre. Why did he do it? What could he possibly have been thinking?

McCHRYSTAL NO MacARTHUR, AND OBAMA CAN'T COME CLOSE TO
HARRY TRUMAN

Those who would try and compare this case with that of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, called home and canned by President Harry Truman at the height of the Korean War, are wrong. McChrystal could never measure up to MacArthur, and Truman was one of our greatest presidents. No danger that Obama will ever eclipse him in the history books.

It is indeed ironic that the fate of Obama's presidency may hinge on the actions of two Republicans - Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Gen. David Petraeus - both key leaders of President Bush's war policy. We wonder what Obama's radical left supporters think of that?

As for now-fired Stanley McChrystal, he has gone into seclusion at Ft. Meyers and undoubtedly will be the subject of much media speculation and late-night comedians' gags for some time to come. The general who tried to "suck-up" to the community organizer from Chicago by claiming he'd "voted for" Obama in 2008, will need time to lick his self-inflicted wounds and fade into obscurity.
