RETIRED NAVY COMMANDER FAKED DISABILITY
$CAMMED BIG BUCKS - RAN IN NEW YORK CITY
MARATHON - FEDS FILE CIVIL SUIT TO SEIZE
MERCEDES-BENZ CAR AND MILLION-DOLLAR
HOME - CHARLES COUGHLIN IN BIG TROUBLE
NO "COVER-UP" FOR HIM - DOESN'T HAVE
RETIRED COLONEL "DADDY," O.S.I. SPOUSE OR
THREE-STAR "PROTECTOR" AT PENTAGON
The officer ran in the New York City Marathon, finishing the gruelling race in just under four hours, and also played basketball and lacrosse without impairment after claiming "disabilities" suffered in the 911 attack on the Pentagon.
No, it's not a certain pampered and protected female major, who, according to an investigator, "has somebody big (a general) by the balls," but instead, a caucasion male naval officer without any high-level connections.
Retired Navy CDR Charles Coughlin, who said he was struck on the head by falling debris during the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, is accused of faking a "disability" and scoring a cool $331,000 from the Victims Compensation Board.
The 49 year-old Maryland man, who was awarded a "Purple Heart" for his "injuries," allegedly submitted bogus medical records to the board in a successful attempt to scam the money.
FEDS FILE CIVIL SUIT -
WANT TO "GRAB UP" FANCY AUTO AND LUXURY HOME
Federal prosecutors have hit Coughlion with a civil suit seeking to seize property the retired commander accumulated thanks to his "big bucks" settlement.
Included in the "goodies" the government wants to "grab up" is a Mercedes-Benz automobile and a million dollar home in the suburbs of Annapolis, Md.
No criminal chrages have been brought against Coughlin as of press time.
BOGUS MEDICAL DOCUMENTS CLAIMED NECK AND SPINAL COLUMN INJURY
The Feds say Coughlin lied when he claimed a neck and spinal column injury was the result of his so-called "heroics" during the Pentagon attack of seven years ago.
Prosecutors cite documents submitted by Coughlin that assert his injuries were so severe, the officer "can no longer do simple tasks, including among other things, hanging mirrors, installing curtains, painting, mulching and putting up Christmas lights."
But the supposed "disabilities" the commander claimed didn't keep him from running in the New York City Marathon just a few months after he was allegedly injured. And Coughlin continued to play basketball and lacrosse, two sports that would not have been possible for him to participate in if he was really as badly hurt as he said.
Navy brass, who once hailed Coughlin as a hero aren't talking if they plan to take back the Purple Heart medal the officer received following the worst attack on the United States since Pearl Harbor in 1941.
NO "SPECIAL TREATMENT" OR "COVER-UP" FOR COUGHLIN -
HE'S FLAT OUT OF LUCK
Coughlin says he is innocent and plans to vigorously, well, oops, maybe not THAT "vigorously," contest the charges in federal court.
One thing's for sure. Coughlin is operating at a distinct disadvantage.
Besides being a white male, he hasn't a retired colonel "daddy," OSI agent spouse, and three-star "protector" at the Pentagon. No "cover-up" for him.
Coughlin's days of cheating the taxpayer may soon be coming to an end.
