AGAINST THE CLOCK - TOP BRASS HOPE "They're running out the clock," said an Air Force officer at Moody AFB Georgia. He was referring to the top brass hoping they can get Maj. Jill Metzger safely retired on a medical disability (PTSD?) sometime in July. Jill's very public jogging around the base kind of undercuts a "physical" disability caused by her "abduction" in Kyrgyzstan in 2006. So it makes sense to go with something else. We have also heard from a mainstream media reporter who didn't bother to dig further on this bizarre story because he was told by Pentagon flacks they "couldn't comment" due to an "ongoing investigation." This was in the past few days. Well, hello there. Any good Admin person - as an officer told us - knows that an active duty member cannot be processing out and have a date to retire if ANY "ongoing investigation" is STILL in progress. There is a final report, and if you or we got to see it and hold it in our hot little hands, we'd know a lot more about whether or not Metzger is a liar and a manipulator. Someone who has seen it got back to us, but you can be sure the original version is guarded closer than all the gold at Fort Knox. We hear the name of a flag officer is included on its pages. Is that why the Air Force "leadership" has gone to such great lengths to keep those of you in blue and the general public in the dark about what really happened in Kyrgyzstan more than nine months ago? AIR FORCE TIMES FINALLY DOES
A "STORY" ON METZGER At least our blockbuster copyrighted investigative article on Metzger (see "related stories box" below) motivated Air Force TIMES to come up with SOMETHING, since their touching article in October 2006 where Daddy Metzger (the retired Air Force colonel) tells us Jill overpowered her abductors after they had "beat her up pretty good" and even "placed a rope around her neck." Remember the SUPERWOMAN television series? Yeah, it was something like that. Only "superwoman" on TV can't run barefoot for 35 - or was it 40 - miles to escape after fighting off her "guards." Right, and the dog ate my homework! This time Erik Holmes (eholmes@militarytimes.com) quotes Mommy Metzger as saying Jill is going on a "medical leave" for 18 months while she tries to decide if she wants to remain in the Air Force. And she has been so "unhappy" not being stationed with her seven years younger OSI-agent hubby. Jill wants to be near to him, we are told. What we are NOT told is anything, and we mean anything, about the nature of the medical "disability" Jill reportedly is seeking. We think our sources are very accurate, but the TIMES apparently doesn't want to get into that. Why, if people read that a "PTSD pension" could be in the works, they might regard it as a "payoff" or "consolation prize" for Jill at having to leave the Air Force. What would returning wounded and disabled Iraq War vets think of that, especially when it's a lot tougher for them to get a decent disability rating? They might wonder why Jill, a non-combat veteran, would be so well taken care of. Guess that's only natural. You know, grumping wounded war vets, arms and legs shot off, faces disfigured, unhappy that someone with "connections" might be getting a better deal than they. How dare they bitch and moan! What was un-natural was Air Force TIMES telling its breathless readers about one - repeat one - article in the Long Island, N.Y. newspaper NEWSDAY which ran in October 2006. We have said that reporting was excellent. It was the only mainstream media piece to dare cast doubt on Jill's "great adventure." But there was NO follow-up to the NEWSDAY piece. None. Hmmmm. Could it be perhaps because NEWSDAY editors decided criticizing a two-time Air Force Marathon winner and feminist ideal is, ahem, "politically incorrect?' MilitaryCorruption.com has now done seven - count 'em - seven articles on this case, and never let go of trying to dig out the truth. We have broken much ground and reported news you wouldn't know otherwise. But we were lumped in by Air Force TIMES with "many blogs, message boards and web sites" who "speculate" Metzger may have "orchestrated her own disappearance." We guess Eric forgot he has spoken to our editor-in-chief in the past on the telephone or that he's seen and read our earlier stories and that we have even provided the TIMES with copies. They were "short on space," yeah, that's the ticket. That's why Air Force TIMES didn't comment on our coverage. Or print our name. Too bad, so sad. Didn't have enough "room" or space to print out the URL www.militarycorruption.com. Well, that's the way it is these days with the high cost of newsprint. Boy, that sure was a "feel-good" story they printed, albeit short on real information. Jill is soooo lonely for her newlywed husband. Mommy Metzger thinks it's just "horrible" that her darling daughter had to drive back and forth each weekend to be with Josh (the OSI agent). The "Paris Hilton of the Air Force" deserves better treatment than that! We can hear her now: "I want R-E-S-P-E-C-T." [Ok, so we engage in satire once in a while.] Why, her family is "frustrated" with the Air Force "for taking so long to make it possible for the couple to be together at a time when [Metzger] needs her husband's support." Anybody want to buy some swamp land in Florida? It's real cheap! MEMO TO AIR FORCE TIMES: TRY A F.O.I.A. - SOMETIMES THEY WORK! Maybe next time, if there is a next time, the intrepid Air Force TIMES reporter can ask the Pentagon: "If Maj. Metzger performed all the heroics she claims she did in her "abduction" last year, when are you going to pin the Air Force Cross on her and send this brave officer on a cross-country whirlwind trip to recruit other super-achiever women into the military?" Ah, but if there is NO awards and decorations, and NO statement from the Air Force since Jill got home in September of 2006, why is that? What is in that OSI report, fellas? You can show it to us. Eric, why not try a F.O.I.A. (Freedom of Information Act) request? It's worth the effort. Really. Alas, it seems only MilitaryCorruption.com asks the hard questions and checks in with our vast network of sources to bring you the REAL story, not the "official" line you see elsewhere. It's easy to rewrite from Pentagon press releases or just do a perfunctory piece to cover your ass, but try getting at the truth when the top brass are fighting you every step of the way. That's called "investigative journalism." [EDITOR'S NOTE: BE WATCHING FOR MORE BREAKING STORIES ON THIS CASE AS WE REPORT OTHER NEWS THAT ALSO IS OF INTEREST TO OUR INFORMATION-STARVED MILITARY READERS. IF YOU SERVED WITH JILL METZGER AT ANY TIME IN THE PAST 13 YEARS; IF YOU WERE AT MANAS AFB BETWEEN APRIL AND SEPTEMBER 2006, WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU ASAP. WRITE US AT STAFF@MILITARYCORRUPTION.COM.
