EX-NAVAL OFFICER GETS 25 YEARS IN PRISON
LT MICHAEL EVERAGE MURDERED WIFE ROBYN
AFTER SHE THREATENED TO GO TO NCIS - SOUGHT
DIVORCE - SET TO TELL OF HUBBY'S HOMOSEXUAL
ROMPS - INVESTIGATORS SAY EVERAGE TRIED TO
MAKE WOMAN'S DEATH APPEAR AN "ACCIDENT"
Michael Everage was a SEALS logistics officer with Special Warfare Group 2. The rugged "macho man" flipped out when wife Robyn threatened to report him as a homosexual to the NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service).
Police say the 41 year-old former Navy lieutenant was willing to give his wife a divorce, but getting hit with the "gay" charge would likely cost him his military career and pension. So, the Norfolk, Va. man devised a scheme to make it look like his wife of five years had been killed in a road accident.
First, court papers showed. he bashed her head in with a "side-view" truck mirror, loaded her into her SUV, then drove to a quiet section of Shore Road in Virginia Beach.
There, he left Robyn's vehicle parked by the curb and dragged his wife's limp body some 30 feet into the bushes. The plan was to make it look like the woman had a mechanical breakdown, got out of the SUV and been struck by a truck side mirror as she walked along the roadway.
That was February 19th. It didn't take cops long to find out the couple had been battling, and when a receipt and empty package for a "side-view truck mirror" was found in a shed back at the officer's home, the police knew they had closed the case.
Everage declined to take the witness stand during his trial but firmly maintained he was innocent. "I didn't kill my wife," he told detectives, who took him into custody five days after Robyn's murder.
Circuit Court Judge Stephen Mahan accepted the jury's verdict. Guilty. The onetime Navy officer was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the dastardly crime.
