ROBERT GATES FINALLY "CLEAN HOUSE?"
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP)(June 3, 1944) - Capt. Morrison J. Wilkinson, Army flier, tonight was convicted by an Army general court-martial on morals charges involving a number of women. He was sentenced to a dishonorable discharge and 30 years imprisonment at hard labor.
How times have changed! All chief AIr Force JAG, former Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Fiscus received from his fat-cat, brass hat pals after he got caught having sex with more than two dozen women was a "slap-on-the-wrist" and big retirement check, albeit at a lower grade. [Another high-ranking JAG, Col. Michael Murphy, is set to finally go on trial after it was discovered he was a phony, fake and fraud. It turns out the colonel had been disbarred as a lawyer from two states while passing judgment on others over the past 20 years]. All this has happened on Gen. T. Michael Moseley's watch and finally it may be catching up to him.
A combination of embarrassments such as the disgusting Maj. Jill Metzger "cover up" and PTSD "disability" pension pay-out; the huge screw-up of a B-52 bomber crew flying from the Dakotas to Louisiana unaware they had a nuclear bomb aboard; and now the ongoing scandals regarding the Thunderbirds and crooked multi-million dollar contracts, might just be enough to take down Moseley and with him, AIr Force Secretary Michael Wynne.
GATES FINALLY RECOGNIZES THERE'S "LEADERSHIP" PROBLEMS
AT THE TOP OF THE AIR FORCE
Like Rip Van Winkle, rising from a long slumber in which he said nothing about the poor leadership and low morale in the Air Force, Defense Secretary Robert Gates has at last spoken out, and the words he used are not "music" to Moseley's ears.
Gates acted like he really was angry at the Air Force for, what he called their "failure to properly support" our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He could have added to the bill, a long list of sex scandals and various miscues that would cause other service chiefs of staff to "hit the bricks" right away.
It's an election year, and ex-CIA man Gates, a crony of President George Bush (whose daddy once ran the CIA) does not want more Air Force "screw-ups" to capture any headlines.
May we suggest that he take a good hard look at the troubled tenure or AIr Force Chief of Staff Moseley and others like him, such as Gen. Gary North, and then do what needs to be done.
Gates can immediately raise morale in the stretched-thin Air Force by wielding a sharp axe, cleaning out the "good old boys" who have presided over one of the worst periods in that service's 60 year-history.
