Some sailors are beginning to think there is a curse upon the destroyer The Sullivans.

Three commanders have been relieved in less than two years, and one former skipper committed suicide. There seems to be no end to the bad luck that has plagued this tin can.

Latest C.O. to be tossed overboard is CMDR Derick Armstrong.

FEW DETAILS WHY COMMANDER WALKS PLANK

He was "canned" because of "an unprofessional command climate . . . contrary to good order and discipline," a Navy flak said. No further details were forthcoming.

Armstrong is the 10th Navy commander dumped so far this year. A total of 23 skippers were fired in all of 2011. The latest casualty had been C.O.of the destroyer since November of last year.

In May of 2010, CMDR Neal Fontanilla got the axe when the warship struck a buoy while entering Bahrain. Last September, CMDR Mark Olson saw his career sink under the waves after an embarrassing incident during gunnery practice off Cherry Point, N.C. The Sullivan mistakenly fired upon a civilian fishing boat instead of the target. Fortunately, no one was injured in the major screw up.

CAPT Wade Wilkenson, who commanded the destroyer some seven years ago, recently committed suicide.
