WEST POINT GRAD SENT TO PRISON Former Army Capt. Michael Dung Nguyen, a West Point graduate, has followed in the footsteps of others like JAG ring-knocker ex-Maj. Daniel Woolverton (child porn) into MilitaryCorruption.com's HALL OF SHAME. The 28 year-old former Army civil affairs officer has received a 30-month prison sentence and been ordered to pay back the balance of the $700,000 he stole that he'd already spent on expensive automobiles and electronic toys. Some $300,000 in cash was found hidden in the attic of his Oregon home. Investigators say that Nguyen's thefts occurred during his 14 month tour of duty at Mudadiyah, Iraq between April 2007 and June 2008. Court papers reveal the officer shipped home greenbacks and deposited the money in Portland, Oregon area banks in amounts less than $10,000 each. That was to "throw off" possible suspicion into his actions by tax officials. But it was his love of luxury cars and a new HUMMER that caught the attention of the Internal Revenue Service. The ARMY Military Academy grad pleaded guilty last December (see related story box below) to theft and money laundering charges. At his sentencing in federal district court, Nguyen was ordered to undergo mental health treatment and at least three years of ''post-prison'' supervision. The ex-officer also must repay to the U.S. Govt. more than two hundred grand.
