It's the end of the line for lovesick ex-NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak.
MilitaryCorruption.com has learned from a well-informed source at Jacksonville, Fla., that a board of inquiry, meeting at the sprawling base, has recommended Navy Capt. Lisa Nowak be separated from the service with a "less-than-honorable" discharge. They also urge that the 47 year-old Nowak be busted down one grade, from captain to commander. That is a serious dent in the troubled officer's pension, provided she ends up with one at all.
The panel's recommendations go to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus for a final decision. He can decrease the punishment, but not add to it. Our guess is, Nowak will get some degree of mercy and be allowed to retire as an 0-5.
BOYFRIEND WASN'T WORTH LOSING CAREER OVER
As we wrote in our last article on this case (see related stories box below), Nowak threw away her life and career for a jerk - fellow astronaut William Oefelein - and, probably out-of-her-mind, made the long drive from Houston, Tex. to Orlando, Fla. to physically confront her "love rival," Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman.
The bizarre middle-of-the-night journey, allegedly with Nowak wearing "diapers" to save time stopping for the ladies room along the way, took place February 4 - 5, 2007. That Nowak meant Shipman "no good" was clear in what the captain had aboard for cargo: rope, a ball hammer, mace, and other instruments that alarmed cops who searched her vehicle.
It was incredible that Nowak thought she could pull off such a confrontation. We think she should have kicked Oefelein's butt for dumping her after two years for a younger woman and then let it go, chalking it up to experience. In our opinion, he wasn't worth the grief and heartache.
A GREAT FUTURE, NOW LOST FOREVER
Prior to her mental melt-down, Nowak had a brilliant career.
Not only a Naval Academy graduate, Lisa Caputo, a Washington D.C. native, had over 3000 hours in the air in all manner of fixed wing and rotor-aircraft. She was a NASA astronaut, a Navy captain and, at age 43 when she flipped out, could have even made admiral someday, had she stayed out of trouble. Now she will always be remembered as fodder for late-night TV comedians, intrigued by "disposable diapers." The New York POST headlined her as the ASTRO-NUT.
It could have been much worse for Nowak. The Orlando police wanted to charge her with attempted murder. That rap was dropped and eventually, in November 2009, Nowak pleaded guilty to one count of felony of a car and misdemeanor battery. She was put on probation.
NOWAK'S PUNISHMENT BAD NEWS FOR
USNA CLASSMATE "HORRIBLE HOLLY GRAF"
What is bad news for Nowak is GOOD news for all those who loathe - you'd need Yankee Stadium to hold them all - "Horrible Holly Graf." That fierce, foul-mouthed screamer, who physically assaulted a number of junior officers, including a lieutenant of Her Majesty's Royal Navy (see our home page), has powerful friends among the man-hating lesbians who make up "The Sisterhood" at the Pentagon. The relieved-of-command Navy captain also has a "big sister" who's a sitting Navy admiral and a father who is a retired four-striper.
We had been getting word that "after a sufficient amount of time" had passed, either Graf would be retained in the Navy - she still wants to make admiral herself - or retired in full grade with no reduction in rank despite proof she physically assaulted subordinate officers as far back as when she was a lieutenant commander and skipper of the destroyer USS Winston Churchill.
The best we can hope for is Graf will get what's coming to her and be booted out as a two-stripe lieutenant, the last grade some think she served "satisfactorily" in. From what we read in over a hundred e-mails, Graf was a shrew-like monster straight out of the Naval Academy.
While the Lisa Nowak case comes to a reasonable conclusion and Holly Graf (her 1985 classmate at USNA) still might face discipline, an immense amount of frustration arises in the fact that a third infamous female military member has apparently escaped justice.
PAMPERED AND PROTECTED JILL METZGER STILL GETTING "DISABILITY" PENSION
Former Air Force poster girl Maj. Jill Metzger, who lied about her alleged "kidnapping" in Kyrgyzstan in 2006 and then got rewarded with a lucrative "disability" pension instead of a court-martial, arrogantly ran in Air Force and Marine Corps Marathons after her suspicious "diagnosis."
The fact that the Air Force covered-up her misconduct and, some say, bought her silence - perhaps a possible "sexual harassment" charge against a certain top-ranking general - with a "disability" pension payoff, has outraged many wounded and genuinely disabled Iraq and Afghan war veterans, some of them missing hands and legs and fighting the system for the 100% total disability rating that pampered and protected Jill was able to scam straight out of the box.
We will be able to say more about the Metzger case in the days ahead. The fourth anniversary of this fraud is the first week of September, and if bloat-faced bully, Gen. Gary North, and the spineless Air Force chief-of-staff think we are going to "go away" and ignore this story as the "mainstream media" have done, they've got another think coming.
