The long list of Navy commanders and executive officers fired this year just added another name.
CMDR Ralph Jones of the transport dock USS Green Bay has been canned for what sources say is "misconduct." The Navy flak who confirmed the dismissal said the boat's XO walked the plank "after an investigation substantiated allegations of personal misconduct."
Navy CMDR Jason Salata didn't elaborate on whether or not the alleged bad behavior included young male or female sailors, Marines, or misconduct of a non-sexual nature.
The brass lost no time in sending Jones to Expeditionary Strike Group 3 in San Diego, where he is likely putting together his papers for retirement. The Green Bay is currently on deployment in the Arabian Sea. She has a compliment of some 4,000 sailors and Marines aboard.
OTHER FIRINGS AND FAVORED TREATMENT
FOR THE INFAMOUS "HORRIBLE" HOLLY GRAF
The most recent cases of "man overboard" took place in June when CMDR Mike Varney, skipper of the attack sub Connecticut, was cashiered because of mishandled classified material, and CAPT Robert Bamberg, whose career hit the skids after he was accused of not obeying a lawful order relating to an "improper relationship."
Apparently all the career-ending actions hasn't impacted Horrible Holly Graf. Last we knew, the screamer - relieved of command of the USS Cowpens Jan. 13, 2010, is still in the Navy, sucking up a hefty 0-6 paycheck - some say, she's still scheming to become an admiral someday. It doesn't hurt to have a big "sister" who is already a flag officer, as is her admiral husband, and Holly's daddy, don't forget him. He is a retired four-stripe captain.
Since Graf is a Naval Academy graduate, her documented misconduct in physically assaulting a British naval officer aboard the destroyer USS Winston Churchill, and then grabbing by the throat a subordinate officer about the Cowpens, insulates her from the swift punishment that would ordinarily follow any other officer.
With the shrill and powerful "Sisterhood" at the Pentagon mounting pressure on her behalf, and the gutless, genuflecting "politically-correct" Navy brass at the Pentagon, the long time regulation about officers only retiring in the last grade "satisfactorily" served in, has gone out the window, at least as far as "Horrible Holly" is concerned.
