What could he have been thinking?
According to a Navy Investigative Report, CMDR Robert Brown thundered "I'm in command here!" when his XO
tried to caution him about using sailors on Sunday to help host a "party" for Brown's relatives.
Now the 26 year veteran, who began his Naval career as an enlisted sailor and graduated from ROTC at the University of California (Los Angeles) in 1992, has wracked up a letter of reprimand and is facing imminent retirement.
"I DON'T GIVE A F - - K IF YOU CALL THE IG," SAID AN ANGRY BROWN
It was July 17, 2011 when the C.O. of Beachmaster Unit 2 at Little Creek, Va. invited his relatives to a "fun" time. It was anything but jovial for Brown's sailors who were Shanghaied into serving as escorts and flunkies on Sunday.
At least two sailors, according to the report, dared to take photographs of the hi-jinks - civilians actually driving Humvees, riding on landing craft, and handling (unloaded) weapons. The angry commander reportedly threatened to run one PO2 "out of the Navy" after he spotted him chronicling the event on film.
"I don't give a f - - k if you call the IG," Brown told the petty officer, who related the verbal assault to Navy investigators.
Arrogance and stupidity can be the only explanation for what the fiery commander did. He could have made it to 30 years active duty and three-quarters pay in his retirement check, but now it's a safe bet Brown is quietly putting in his papers. Fired by SURFLANT Rear Admiral Dave Thomas, CMDR Brown will soon be out of the Navy.
