Greed continues to take its toll of American military contracting officers. The latest is Army Maj. Roderick D. Sanchez, who has been charged with accepting bribes in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Fort Carson major appeared in Denver federal court earlier this month and is now assigned to desk duty while awaiting further action in his case.

Sanchez is alleged to have received Colorado real estate, a Dodge Ram truck, Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and several expensive Rolex wristwatches in exchange for steering contracts to favored vendors.

If convicted, the Fountain, Colo. resident faces up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

ALLEGED CO-CONSPIRATORS UNIDENTIFIED
EXCEPT AS TWO FOREIGN NATIONALS

The wrongdoing is said to have taken place between March of 2002 and August 2007. No details on how Sanchez was nabbed has been released, but MilitaryCorruption.com has learned the co-conspirators in the case (both overseas and out of U.S. jurisdiction) are two foreign nationals.

Investigators say the matter is being handled by the U.S. Justice Department's Public Integrity Section in Washington.

Sanchez is not the first, and likely won't be the last, contracting officer caught up in bribery charges. We invite our readers to look below this story for a review of just some of the prior articles. It has been estimated, for every contracting officer caught committing such crimes, nine more get away with it. Those odds are enough of an inducement to others, that this sort of thing will likely continue, as long as U.S. forces are deployed to war spots around the world.
