"I WAS STRESSED OUT FROM SERVICING ALL THOSE
JOHNS!" THE PROTECTED OFFICER CAN PLEAD
What if the roles and genders were reversed? Would the "politically-correct" Navy brass be so quick to court-martial a female faculty member at Annapolis if she was accused of secretly videotaping folks having sex at her private residence off academy grounds, while at the same time, letting a "male officer prostitute" who slept with possible security risks escape punishment? Of course not!
Once again, the U.S. Naval Academy is the scene of another "double-standard of justice."
Does anyone seriously think the pampered and protected lieutenant commander, who allegedly worked as a high-class whore for the "D.C. Madam," is going to do one day of jail time, much less be punished at all for making money on the side, servicing hundreds of "johns?" That's not "conduct unbecoming an officer," that's supplementing one's regular income. Yeah, that's the ticket! After all, we know that 0-4's are strapped for cash, what with the small amount of money they are paid, so what's wrong with a bit of "private enterprise?"
We don't suppose the Navy can keep and promote her, now that the news of her extra-curricular activites has been reported by the "mainstream media," so perhaps the former faculty member can put in for a PTSD "disability" pension. You know, all that "stress" from servicing so many clients, especially the weirdos and security-risks.
Not to worry. It worked for Maj. Jill Metzger - scoring the big bucks, tax-free, monthly payment for life. All you need is some high-ranking officers with something to hide "pulling strings" in the background. That, and the passage of time - can we say INTO THE MEMORY HOLE boys and girls(?) - will enable the brass to sweep this embarrassment under the rug. It works almost every time.
"EXTORTION" POSSIBLE MOTIVE IN CHARGES AGAINST NAVAL DOCTOR
As for CMDR Kevin Ronan, whose lawyer says he is the victim of an extortion attempt by a disgruntled and disgraced former midshipman who flunked out of the Naval Academy, the highly-respected medical officer has been recommended for court-martial. Trial is set to begin in late October, and MCC will have someone there, unless the doors are barred and our "eyes and ears" discovered.
Ronan is alleged to have secretly "video-taped" several midshipmen who stayed over in his luxurious home and had sex with their girlfriends in a guest bedroom. The ever-diligent Navy (except when it comes to some officers who moonlight as "prostitutes") hit the pediatrician and - until May 2006 - brigade medical officer for several varsity sports teams - with seven counts of "conduct unbecoming an officer," three counts of illegal wiretapping, and one of obstruction of justice. Besides losing his military career and pension, the doctor could get up to ten years in the slammer.
Prosecutors huffed and puffed about Ronan allegedly welcoming men into his home on weekends through the Academy's sponsor program, then videotaping their amorous activities using a hidden camera set up in an air purifier in the bedroom.
Civilian defense attorney Bill Ferris - Ronan would have to be insane to depend only on his "free" supply of Navy JAG "defense" lawyers - punched holes right through the Navy's specious charges. He cited that one of the two midshipmen (MilitaryCorruption.com does not choose to identify these "gentlemen" at this time) was trying to extort $127,000 from the wealthy doctor so he could pay back money owed the government after he was expelled from the Naval Academy.
PUTTING ON A "PERFORMANCE" AT THE PRELIMINARY HEARING
It was quite a sight at the Article 32 hearing.
The big, strapping former midshipman blubbered like a baby, pointedly dabbing his eyes with a tissue to wipe away the copious tears that streamed down his twitching face as he recounted his terrible angst at being allegedly spied on while engaged in "amour." Why, his jaw tightened and his fists clenched. He "boo-hoo'd" so hard, even veteran NCIS agents winced at the extreme overkill.
He was "shocked," the former midshipman testified, absolutely stunned to discover what he claimed was a hidden camera device. Why he was so "shocked," it was like a scene out of the movies. Remember (if you are over 50) French police captain Louis Renault (Claude Rains) in CASABLANCA who professed his "shock" to discover "gambling" was going on in Rick's American Cafe? You may recall at the very moment of his professed surprise, the clever cop was being handed his "cut" of that night's gaming "proceeds."
LOOK FOR THE MOTIVE AND YOU WILL FIND
THE REASON FOR THE CHARGES
"Gee, (Dr. Ronan) has been pretty good to all of us," whined and wailed the slick midshipman. "We realize he could face several years in prison. For that reason," the accuser said, "it was a hard decision to turn him in."
Yeah, sure. We bet it was for you, pal.
Perhaps that "decision" was hastened by the doctor's refusal to "pay off," so the midshipman, kicked out of the academy for poor grades, might have had a grudge to get even. Just alert the NCIS "sex police" and watch them go into action with all the subtlety of a pack of wild dogs chasing a frightened and bleeding deer across an open field.
Ferris says Dr. Ronan bought the miniature camera in the air purifier in order to catch guests the medical officer suspected were "pilfering items" from his gadget-laden home. The residence, complete with plasma TVs, video-game systems and high speed computers (along with plenty of free food and beverage) was very popular with many midshipmen.
The lawyer said his client couldn't get the camera to work, so stored the purifier up in the attic, a location that the "offended" midshipman had full access to. One of the most telling points in Ferris's summation of shake-down is during the tapes, the poor wretch whose sensibilities were so offended by his supposed being watched "au natural," often "looked straight into" the hidden camera, as if he knew it was there and he wanted to be sure it recorded his face for future reference. Isn't that odd?" asked Ferris. Oh, no, not at all, not to the NCIS and ambitious prosecutors who are determinded to send the Navy doctor to prison and add a notch on their belt.
If only CMDR Ronan was a woman and just slept with potential spies while banking thousands of dollars unreported to the IRS. Then he might have gotten a commendation, or at least a "free pass" through the MEMORY HOLE. Tough luck for him. And to anyone in America who still holds dear that quaint concept called "justice" and "equal-treatment under the law."
