WE MEET "WALL OF SILENCE" IN COVER-UP
A Naval officer has been sent to the brig and dismissed from the service based upon circumstantial "evidence" and the "word" of a former Academy cadet, kicked out of Annapolis for poor grades, who was revealed to have lied and fabricated official documents.
Meanwhile, a former Academy faculty member and female lieutenant commander who worked as a high-priced whore for the infamous "D.C. Madam" [see "related stories box" below] continues to hide behind a protective wall of silence built by the Navy brass. All MilitaryCorruption.com has been able to learn so far, is the woman in question has been "transferred elsewhere." That's it. No information on whether her security clearance has been pulled.
That would seem a "no-brainer," but perhaps the reason she's being handled with "kid-gloves" is more than the usual "political correctness." Could it be some of the "names" on the officer's "client list" would be embarrassing if brought to light? We hear that high-ranking officers from the Pentagon were some of the whore's clients. Also an editor at the Military TIMES (one of the four publications - ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE and MARINE CORPS TIMES published by the Gannett Newspaper chain).
Once again, the Navy has shown a double standard of justice. It's about time the Pentagon came clean on the "D.C. Madam." We intend to hold their feet to the fire until they do. Unlike ABC NEWS, which broke the story with much ballyhoo and then quickly backed off, MCC is not going to "go away." The American people deserve the truth and we will see to it they get it.
CREDIBILITY OF CADET IN CDR RONAN CASE VERY MUCH IN QUESTION
The specious conviction of Navy CDR Kevin Ronan, former athletic team doctor at Annapolis, shows to what lengths the brass will go to send someone to jail. All the so-called "evidence" in the case was based on a bed of sand. The "offended" former Academy cadet who was "shocked," yes, "absolutely shocked" to find a video of he and his girlfriend having sex in Ronan's home, sniveled like a 10 year-old when he took the witness stand during the preliminary hearing.
The big, strapping former midshipman blubbered like a baby, pointedly dabbing his eyes with a tissue to wipe away the copious tears that streamed down his twitching face as he recounted his terrible angst at being allegedly spied on while engaged in "amour." Why, his jaw tightened and his fists clenched. He "boo-hoo'd" so hard, even veteran NCIS agents winced at the extreme overkill.
Let's back up and take a close look at the "accuser" - initials A. S. - and see just how much credibility he has.
We know that the cadet was among several that Ronan invited into his home on weekends who happily accepted the generous hospitality. After all, the house had plasma TV's on every wall to watch the ball games; electronic gizmos and games of every kind; and a refrigerator always stocked with plenty of free food.
"Dr. Ronan has been pretty good to all of us," Cadet A.S. testified. "We realize he could face several years in prison. It was a hard decision to turn him in."
THE MOTIVE - REVENGE FOR NOT GETTING NEEDED CASH
Now, let's see what defense attorney William Ferris pointed out but, unfortunately, fell on deaf ears of the six-man (Navy captains) jury.
It seems that the cadet, after he was kicked out of the Academy for poor grades. had a pressing need to come up with cash to pay back the government for more than three years of his college education. One might say he was even "desperate." The best place to turn for that kind of loot was CDR Ronan. A man-of-means, Ronan would have ordinarily helped out, but this was "serious" money, so substantial an amount that the commander balked at the "gimme"
Ferris says the cadet tried to "shake him down" (Dr. Ronan) but did not succeed. Then, A. S. threatened to "get even" and did.
Ronan explained under oath that the air purifier did indeed have a hidden camera installed (known to the cadets who stayed over at his house) but that he "couldn't figure out how to make it work" and had stored it up in his attic. It would not have been a bit of trouble for A.S. to have taken it down in Ronan's absence, hooked it up, and staged a "sex scene" for the camera with his girlfriend. That would explain the bizarre staring into the lens that was revealed on the video tape.
CADET HAD A TRACK RECORD OF LIES AND DECEIT
Besides his being put out of Annapolis in his senior year, A.S. admitted under cross-examination during court-martial that he'd forged a document given to the Naval Academy superintendent to avoid being forced to serve as an enlisted man. He also was caught cheating when he acknowledged changing grades on his transcript in an effort to get a job as a substitute teacher.
It seems A.S.'s credibility is very low. But not low enough, apparently, for the Navy. They were more than happy to accept his claims.
The accuser alleged he and one of his gal pals was surreptitiously video-taped while having sex in the commander's home. He said the tape had been made from a secret camera hidden inside an air purifier in a bedroom. The cadet also claimed he was "unaware" at the time he was being photographed, saying he "discovered" the terrible, shocking video by accident when he was rummaging around in the house.
If A.S. was unaware of his being photographed, why did he and his girlfriend frequently look directly into and at the hidden camera as if to make sure it would clearly record their faces? The answer is obvious.
YET ANOTHER MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE
The Navy pulled out all stops to convict the commander by linking him up to a large number of pornographic tapes that had been downloaded from the officer's television. The problem with that flimsy charge is dozens of cadets came through Ronan's home during the months the porn was viewed, and any one of them could have been responsible.
Finally, we have to come to a motive. If you toss out the defense contention that A.S. was retaliating for not getting money out of CDR Ronan, then WHY would he be so "upset" that someone had allegedly taped his sexual encounter with a girl? In view of all the kindness that Ronan showed A.S. and his fellow cadets, what would motivate the admitted liar and cheat to hurt this man?
Thanks to the Navy, A.S. got away with it. CDR Ronan loses his pension and benefits and goes to prison for the next four years.
The D.C. Madam's whore ought to put in for a PTSD "disability" pension like Jill Metzger scored. Then the Naval officer can "retire" on easy street. Maybe she can get a book or movie deal as PFC Je$$ica Lynch did.
Who said "crime doesn't pay?"
