CADET DANIEL RYERSONWe don't have a dog in this fight.

Both actors are not what we call good officer material. One of them has a serious drinking and judgment problem. The other is a low life who, when his date passed out from booze, called up a gal pal in Boulder and had sex with her in the same room.

Daniel Ryerson saw his plans for an alcohol-laden weekend with a female Air Force Academy cadet and one wild party. turn into disaster. It ended up with the young woman charging the 22 year-old AFA man with sexually assaulting her while she was incapacitated.

The "victim" told investigators she was so blitzed by booze she wasn't sure she'd had sex with her classmate. But a DNA test showed presence of his semen, so Ryerson was nailed as having banged her despite his initial denials any intercourse took place.

TRIAL WILL BE OVER SOON

To her credit, the female reported being torn up promptly, like the next day, and the male cadet was taken into custody and charged.

He faces raps for sexual assault and second-degree kidnapping. If found guilty, he could go away to jail for a long time and, of course, his Air Force career - he was slated to graduate next year - would be all over.

We should know the result within a week. Trial began in civilian court in Boulder on October 20 and will conclude in about five more days.

PROSECUTOR AND DEFENSE ATTORNEY
WEIGH IN ON RESULT

"The defendant was her wingman," Boulder Deputy District Attorney Catrina Weigel said. "He (Ryerson) violated the code. Your wingman is supposed to protect you."

The DA contends the "victim" was taken advantage of in her inebriated state.

Defense attorney John Pineau tried to make the best of a bad situation when he said, "There's nothing pretty about it. Look at the evidence, you look at the whole picture, the whole story, and you will find the verdict is not guilty."

If we had to place a bet, however, Ryerson will likely be convicted.
