It was the worst possible nightmare for COL Parker Schenecker. Away from home on assignment to Qatar, the Army full-bird learned both his beloved children were dead and his wife charged with their cold-blooded murder!

What caused this unspeakable tragedy in a home that seemingly had it all? Both Beau, 13, and his sister Calyx, 16, were shot "execution-style" at close range with a deadly .38. "Soccer mom" Julie Schenecker, the blonde, blue-eyed upper middle-class mother of two, mumbled to police she'd killed her kids because they were "mouthy" and "talked-back" to her.

First impression might be this is a very sick woman who had been suffering for some time. But from information gathered by MilitaryCorruption.com reporters on the scene and here in our newsroom, another picture emerges.

TROUBLING QUESTIONS CLOUD POSSIBLE "INSANITY" DEFENSE

Why did the 50 year-old stay-at-home mom purchase a handgun five days before using it on her own flesh-and-blood? Why did Julie blast both kids TWICE in the head, "execution-style," according to a cop investigating the case.

Then there's that bizarre "perp walk," where as soon as killer mom spotted the TV cameras, she started to shake uncontrollably and roll her eyes like a zombie? Was she suddenly having a psychotic episode, or was this a clever trick to set the stage for a successful "insanity" defense?

We've studied the news tape carefully and watched it a half dozen times. Either this woman is nuts, or a very poor actress. She did everything but drool on herself and looked into the cameras, head high. It was an unnerving experience even for our hard-nosed editor-in-chief, who covered many a grisly homicide in the days he was a New York POST reporter.

By all reports, both children were soft-spoken and respectful. Neighbors could not remember a single instance of trouble in the Schenecker household. The 3,300 square-foot, $500,000 home, located in the gated community of Ashington Reserve in Tampa, Fla., sat on a cul-de-sac. Friends said the two murder victims were friendly and well-mannered.

NO INDICATION OF TROUBLE - BOTH KIDS QUIET AND RESPECTFUL

Not since Susan Smith killed her children in South Carolina and Andrea Yates drowned five of her kids in the bathtub has there been such a horrific example of a parent murdering offspring.

"Calyx was a track-star in school, just like her mom back in Iowa," a neighbor who did not want to be identified, told us. "Julie excelled at both track and basketball. She seemed so proud of her daughter. We can't understand this. It just doesn't add up."

At press time, Julie Schenecker is being held under police guard at a local hospital. An initial court appearance Jan. 29 has been postponed. She faces two charges of first-degree murder.
