It's time for him to go. In fact, it's well past time that Gen. Norton Schwartz put in his papers and leave.
His tenure as Air Force chief of staff as been marked by cover-up and corruption. Widely known as "puppet" for bully-boy Gen. Gary North, Schwartz slapped all men and women in Blue across the face when he joined with North in protecting Maj. (P) Jill Metzger, AKA Mayo, from being brought to justice over her phony "kidnapping" in Kyrgyzstan. The UCMJ be damned!
The favored treatment given this pet by her close friend North, infuriated genuinely disabled veterans, who were outraged when the one-time Air Force poster girl arrogantly ran in both the USAF and Marine Corps marathons while at the same time drawing 100% "disability" pay.
We invite new readers - MilitaryCorruption.com gets up to six million hits a month worldwide - to check our "related stories box" at the bottom of this story to see the open letter we sent to Gen. Schwartz, hoping against hope that he would have the honor and integrity to do the right thing about the pampered and protected one. Sadly, we have been deeply disappointed.
But the latest reason for Schwartz to face the music is his role in this most recent Air Force scandal.
WHAT DID HE KNOW AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT?
Nothing is more sacred to American citizens than how our nation's war dead are treated when their bodies are returned to U.S. soil in preparation for military funeral.
It has now been disclosed that deceased warriors' body parts have been "lost" and in some cases, incinerated and dumped in a Virginia landfill. Horribly, a fallen Marine's arm was sawed off to "fit" him into his uniform preparing him for placement in a casket.
And Schwartz KNEW this for over a year! He just admitted as much in a statement to the always-friendly Air Force TIMES.
We'd like to ask the ethics-challenged chief-of-staff if he was also aware of the campaign of harassment conducted against three whistle blowers during that time. Can he truthfully say he didn't know one hero, supposedly protected by federal law, was threatened with dismissal, while his two colleagues were treated to a reign of terror?
SCHWARTZ TRIES TO RIDE OUT SCANDAL ON HIS WATCH
"I cannot certify with certainty that prior performance met with our standard of perfection," Schwartz piously declared.
Body parts dumped in a landfill on his watch and all this political general can do is come out with sanctimonious crap like that? Yes, it's time to go. Schwartz has become too much of an embarrassment to everyone.
Air Force TIMES wrote: " . . . Gen. Schwartz choked back tears Tuesday as he publicly disclosed what he'd known for more than a year. The service had mishandled the remains of fallen troops passing through Dover Air Force Base."
We won't be so kind. The general may have felt like crying, but only because he got caught up in yet another scandal. If it had blown over and the IG had not been involved, don't think for one moment the chief-of-staff would have lost a minute's sleep.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: We urge our many Air Force CI's in CONUS and overseas to e-mail us immediately if your base commander tries to violate our First Amendment rights by blocking MCC on installation computers as a result of our criticism of Schwartz. We warn them, they personally will be brought into federal court and sued as individuals - we repeat, themselves - if they are reckless and foolish enough to try and impede freedom of the press.]
