Don't you just love the way the Navy announces they've fired another commander, XO, or chief of the boat? They say it's for "misconduct," but then leave you hanging - to say nothing of the accused - wondering and waiting to find out just what caused the person to have to walk the plank.

CMDR Jason Stapleton is the fourth executive officer this year (see related stories box below) to be fired since New Year's day.

We can't tell you whether he got drunk on liberty, messed with one of the females (or males), or just pissed off someone up his chain-of-command, but the fact is, this Annapolis grad (Class of 1996) doesn't have a very bright future.

All we can tell you right now is the alleged "misconduct" took place while the Navy's Hawaii-based Patrol Squadron 4 was assigned to the Naval air station at Sigonella, Italy.

We do know that CAPT Christopher Ramsden, commander of Patrol Reconnaissance Wing 2, was the one who pulled the trigger.

Stapleton's replacement is the popular CMDR Brett "Woo Woo" Thompson. We'll let you wonder how he got that nick-name.

NUMBER FOUR ON NAVY'S X.O. "HIT PARADE"

Anyway, the fired Navy commander is the fourth XO tossed overboard this year.

Previous victims include CMDR James Pickens of the Frigate Gary; LT CMDR Lauren Allen, then with the attack submarine Jacksonville; and CMDR Steve Fuller, former XO of the Frigate Kauffman.

Unlucky CMDR Stapleton, of Spotsville, Va., has been reassigned to a desk job at Kaneohe Bay while the investigation of his alleged "misconduct" goes on.

The Naval Academy graduate had served with VP-30 and VP-10 as well as on the carrier USS George Washington prior to getting his tail in a crack overseas.
