CMDR TORY SWANSONTory Swanson started his Naval career as an enlisted man. And now, for all intensive purposes, the Colorado native who made it all the way to commanding officer of a fast-attack submarine during his 26 years in the service, is on his way out.

The press release carried the same "boiler-plate" we usually get when a CO is canned. " . . . he was relieved due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command."

In other words, Swanson should be getting his retirement papers in order. He has no future left in the silent service.

NO "PERSONAL TRANSGRESSIONS" CITED

At least we know this much. Swanson's relief wasn't a result of him walking the plank for being drunk on duty, messing around with females, or even the males. The reason he was canned was not - repeat, not - the result of a "personal transgression."

A spokesperson for CAPT Harry Gantfaume, boss of Submarine Squadron 1 at Pearl Harbor, hinted Swanson's fate was related to "operational decision-making." The flak declined to elaborate, saying an "on-going investigation" precluded further comment.

Prior to this, Swanson has maintained a blemish-free record. The Perdue University graduate won plaudits for his service as an engineering officer aboard the USS Greenville, before coming on board the Mississippi in April 2013.
