Fred Trayers was a popular guy. His co-workers at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, thought he was terrific. More than a few females, in and out of uniform, did too. The trouble for him, which proved fatal, was his wife found out about his two-timing and finished him off with a knife.
The Navy doctor and lt. commander, 41, had been romancing Danielle Robbins, a doctor he'd met while both physicians were working aboard the USNS Mercy in August of 2010.
Sparks flew, and soon the couple was involved in a serious relationship. So serious, that Trayers confided to friends he was thinking of leaving his spouse of 19 years and starting over with his new girlfriend.
Jennifer Trayers told investigators she got wind of the office romance when she came across e-mails between her husband and Robbins.
WAS IT PREMEDITATED MURDER? WE REPORT, YOU DECIDE
On the night of Dec. 5, 2010, sources tell MilitaryCorruption.com, she drugged her husband and then plunged a long-blade knife into his heart, chest and eight times in his back. When the cops arrived at the North Park condo the next morning, alerted by Fred's worried friends when he didn't turn up for work, there was blood everywhere.
The dead officer wasn't the only one with knife cuts. Jennifer was bleeding herself, but according to the San Diego D.A.'s office, her wounds were "superficial and self-inflicted."
Now the killer wife is fighting to stay out of jail for the up to 26 years a "premeditated murder" conviction could bring her. The 43 year-old woman's defense attorneys claim she'd tried to kill herself with the knife during an argument and somehow her husband died instead. Right.
Working against Trayers in her current court trial is a blistering eight-page e-mail Jennifer sent Danielle just before she offed her hubby. In it, the vengeful wife made it very clear what her intentions were.
