Back in the days of dictator Joseph Stalin, when someone from the Russian Politburo was "eliminated," few if any details were given out. Usually the first clue that person was off to Siberia or six feet under was when their face was airbrushed out of official photos.

Old Joe couldn't care less what his people thought because he was the BOSS, and as far as he was concerned, they could go pound sand.

In some ways, that's the same attitude the Pentagon takes when they announce senior enlisted and officer firings. Use the same old boilerplate - " . . . have lost confidence in (his/her) ability to lead . . ." yadda, yadda, yadda. But almost always short on details.

The men and women in today's Air Force aren't a bunch of children. They can "handle the truth" if their leaders would trust them with it once in a while.

Not being forthcoming breeds the rumor factory, and we've heard stories already on both Chief Master Sgt. Zefrem Smith and Col. A. Philip Waite.

TRUST OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN BLUE WITH THE TRUTH

It wouldn't be fair to print them now, because we have no confirmation. MilitaryCorruption.com usually has at least two sources to verify certain facts before we publish. In the case of pampered and protected former Air Force poster girl, Maj. (P) Jill Metzger, AKA Mayo, we have a wealth of sources, but usually, it's hard to nail down facts when the brass are doing back flips to hide the truth.

Smith, whose official biography has been pulled off the Internet, was removed back in November. He had been top enlisted man at the 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein beginning in July 2011.

Kudos to STARS AND STRIPES for digging out the fact he was canned. Smith was "removed for cause" Maj. Elizabeth Aptekar told the military tabloid.

As for the band commander, this is the first time we've heard of someone like that being given the axe.

An Air Force spokesperson said no charges or disciplinary action is pending, reference the bird colonel.

Waite, who led the music-makers since June of last year, has been reassigned to the 11th Wing staff at Joint Base Andrews, Md.
